What do foreigners think of the square dance culture in China?

Some foreign netizens answered

One : I like this activity very much, and the whole world should learn to square dance. This activity addresses many of the pains of growing old, such as lack of socialization, exercise and entertainment. Good for you! When I was in China, I especially enjoyed spectating the square dancing (laughs) and sometimes joining in, which always made for a good laugh ......

Two : I love this activity and the whole world should learn to square dance. This activity addresses many of the pains of entering old age, such as lack of socialization, exercise and entertainment. Good for you!

I often go for a morning run on a hill near my home, and every morning I see an incredible sight: a party of grandmothers! Their lead dancer acts as a DJ and dances to the beat of the music. More than 100 people gather, ranging in age from 50 to 80, and everyone on the sidewalk swings and dances to the beat.

Seriously, Western life and culture is really quite lacking in this area. This is where we need to learn from our Chinese friends on how to live a happy old age.

Westerners should also learn about filial piety. Too many of our families throw their elderly members of the family into nursing homes for convenience and without any respect. They don't even visit the people who worked so hard to bring them into this world.

Sadly, this beautiful and important element of China seems to clash with modern life. Many young Chinese people complain that the noise of square dancing is too loud and destroys the peace and quiet of their lives, simply because it is not the same as their way of life. But to be fair, sometimes these grandmothers really do like to rock and roll, and they really should probably turn it down a bit. Maybe the youngsters should join in on the fun too?

The last moments of life on earth should be memorable, joyful and wonderful. We should all appreciate square dancing and spread it around the world. Doesn't treating the elderly well and creating a suitable environment for them to live in reflect the nobility of humanity?

Three : Personally, I think it's great. It's a relaxing and social evening out, as well as great exercise. I often stop to watch them dance. Sometimes the women dance together because of the lack of male partners, and I've even seen people doing the moves there by themselves.

So it's clear that foreigners love square dancing too.
