What is the folk custom basis of eight not burying seven? Or an allusion?

This proverb is not scientific and superstitious, but rural people still do it. After all, this is a tradition left by our ancestors. Ordinary people think it is unfilial not to do it. Anyway, the purpose is to remember our relatives and hope their relatives can be lucky.

The meaning of "seven don't bury father, eight don't bury mother" is actually very simple and can be understood literally. "Seven" and "Eight" talk about time, because in the past, time was calculated according to the lunar calendar, so it is said that the father's body cannot be buried on the seventh, seventeenth and twenty-seventh day of the seventh lunar month, while the mother's body cannot be buried on the eighth, eighteenth and twenty-eighth day of the eighth lunar month.

This proverb has two meanings. The first meaning is that you can't go out until you have finished seven things, and you can go home after you have learned the eight virtues of filial piety, loyalty, faithfulness, courtesy, righteousness, honesty and shame.

On the other hand, it means staying at home for an extra day, and on the other hand, it means being lucky. "Seven don't bury my father, eight don't bury my mother" and "seven don't go out, eight is not as good as" have the same effect. One is to miss the dead relatives, and the other is to keep those who are away from home.

There is another saying in the extended materials, because it is homophonic. If the father is a male, bury his father like a wife every seven days and his mother as a living mother, and bury (turtle) every eight days. Being buried these days doesn't sound good. Because of superstition, the ancients were sensitive to Chinese homophones, so there was a saying that seven did not bury their fathers and eight did not bury their mothers.

On the other hand, it is said that July and August are the days when the ancient royalty were buried, and civilians were not allowed to be buried in July and August, unlike the royal family. Later, it gradually evolved into the current seven burials, which should be a good day.
