Landscape painting is a kind of Chinese painting, which gradually developed in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and became independent in Sui and Tang Dynasties. Artists who are good at painting landscapes from ancient times to the present have never stopped. Ten famous landscape painters in China, including Zhan Ziqian, Li Sixun, Hao Jing, Guan Tong, Dong Yuan, Fan Kuan, Ju Ran and Shi Tao.
Zhan Ziqian, a master of painting in Sui Dynasty, occupies an important position in the history of painting in China. He is good at painting Buddhism and Taoism, figures, pommel horses, cars, palaces, pavilions, feathers, historical stories and so on. He is especially good at landscape painting. He paints his face with meticulous figures. When you draw a horse, you immediately have enough momentum, and when you lie on the horse, you have a tendency to jump.
He is known as the "ancestor of painting in Tang Dynasty" and created the painting method of green landscape. The oldest landscape painting in China is his work. Representative works: You Chuntu, Eight Kings Sardinia, Awarding Classics, Chang 'an Chariots and Horses, etc.
Li Sixun was a famous painter and calligrapher in Tang Dynasty, who was good at painting green landscapes. His representative works include A Pavilion on the River Sail and A Fan in Jiucheng Palace.
Guan Tong was an outstanding painter in the Five Dynasties and one of the "Four Great Landscape Painters" in the Northern Song Dynasty. Representative works include "Mountain Stream Waiting for Crossing" and "Travel Map of Guanshan".
Dong Yuan is a master of painting in the Five Dynasties, the originator of landscape painting in the South, and one of the "three outstanding figures in the Northern Song Dynasty". He is good at landscapes, figures, Yunlong and Niuhu, and he is omnipotent. The most original and highest achievement is ink landscape. Representative works: Xiaoxiang Map, Xiajing Mountain Pass Waiting for Crossing, Summer Mountain Map, etc.
