Which country is Qu Yuan from?
A native of Chu at the end of the Warring States period, Qu Yuan was an outstanding statesman and patriotic poet. His name was Ping, and his character was Yuan. He was a descendant of Qu Chuan, son of Xiong Tong, King of Wu of Chu. Danyang (now zigui, hubei).
Qu Yuan is China's first great patriotic poet, he created a new era of poetry from collective singing to individual independent creation, is China's founding father of the tradition of positive romantic poetry, "the world's four great cultural celebrities" (in addition to Poland's Copernicus, Shakespeare, Italy's Dante), one of the four great cultural celebrities.
Qu Yuan lived through the three periods of King Wei of Chu, King Huai of Chu, and King Hai Xiang of Chu, but he was mainly active in the period of King Huai of Chu. He assisted King Huai to change the law to become stronger internally, and actively advocated the alliance with Qi to fight against Qin externally. Later, he was alienated by King Huai due to
false accusations by the villains and was
exiled twice. The first time, during the reign of King Huai, he was exiled
to the north of Han Dynasty; the second time, during the reign of King Haixiang, he was exiled to the area of Yuan and Xiang.
Lastly, he sank himself into the Miluo River when he had no choice but to show his loyalty and patriotism.
Qu Yuan's works include "Li Sao", "Heavenly Questions", "Nine Songs", "Nine
Chapters", "Invocation of the Soul" and so on. Generally speaking, "Li Sao", "Heavenly Questions",
"Nine Songs" can be regarded as the representatives of three types of Qu Yuan's works. Nine Chapters
Similar to Li Sao, it focuses on the author's inner feelings. Heavenly Questions
is a poem written by Qu Yuan based on myths and legends, in which he asks 172 questions to
the heavens in a row, covering many fields such as astronomy, geography, literature, philosophy
and so on, which expresses the poet's bold skepticism of traditional concepts and his scientific spirit of pursuing the truth
. The Nine Songs is a piece of music dedicated to the gods of Chu, which was embellished by Qu Yuan and filled with a strong flavor of life.
Qu Yuan was the first great patriotic poet in the history of Chinese literature. His works
created the tradition of romanticism in Chinese poetry. His noble spirit and lofty
personality has inspired and nurtured countless Chinese children for thousands of years. The people will always look up to him and love him. The Chinese folk custom of wrapping zongzi and racing dragon boats on the Dragon Boat Festival on May 5 is derived from his memory.
