Social Status of University Teachers in China

Teachers in colleges and universities are the precious wealth of the country, the backbone of socialist modernization, one of the backbones of socialist education, the inheritors and disseminators of the precious heritage of human science, technology, culture and art, the creators of new knowledge and new culture, the organizers and implementers of educational goals, and the cultivators of specialized talents. At present, China is facing the arduous task of realizing the strategic goal of socialist modernization and meeting the challenge of the new technological revolution in the world. To realize modernization, science and technology are the key and education is the foundation. Entrusted by the Party and the people, college teachers shoulder the heavy responsibility of cultivating specialized talents, developing science, technology and culture, and developing social services. They play an extensive and important role in the construction of socialist material civilization and spiritual civilization, and have a vital impact on social progress, the rise and fall of the country and the nation, and the modernization process. Without knowledge, intellectuals and teachers in institutions of higher learning and higher education, there can be no socialist modernization.

The educational status of teachers is determined by the different status of teachers and students in education. In the history of education, this issue has always been completely different. These views only emphasize one side in the process of education, which is somewhat biased.

We believe that teachers are in a dominant position in the educational process. Teachers' choice of educational content, adjustment of educational activities, control of educational influence and transformation of educational means all reflect the leading role of teachers in the educational process. In a sense, teachers determine the success or failure of education and teaching activities and the quality of personnel training.

College teachers are also in a dominant position in education. Teachers play a leading role in the whole process of teaching in colleges and universities, from the selection of teaching content and the compilation of teaching materials to the specific organization and implementation of all teaching links such as classroom teaching, experiment, practice and graduation thesis (design). In scientific research, from the selection of scientific research direction, the determination of research topics, the development of research work, to the summary and evaluation of scientific research results, all are carried out by teachers or under their direct guidance. In other words, teachers also play a leading role in scientific research in schools. In the ideological and political education of college students, teachers have a special role that other school personnel (including political workers) cannot play. Teachers spend the most time in contact with students and have the widest scope. They are all carrying out ideological and political education for students, especially in all aspects of the teaching process. Everything a teacher says and does in contact with students will have an impact on students and play a subtle role. Teachers play a leading role in teaching and educating people, cultivating specialized talents and cultivating builders and successors of the socialist cause.
