In rural China, covered bridges dot the river basin.

Covered bridges, generally referring to historical bridges with covered houses, are an important bridge type in China, with unique structure and beautiful shape. Most of their load-bearing structures are wooden or Liang Shi bridges and arch bridges, among which the sub-types with China characteristics are wooden arch bridges, bent arch bridges and wooden beam bridges with legs.

According to preliminary statistics, there are different types of covered bridges 138 in national key cultural relics protection units, distributed in 13 provinces (autonomous regions). Covered bridge, also called Hongqiao and Pteris vittata Bridge, is a kind of covered bridge, which can shelter people from the wind and rain and provide places for people to rest, communicate and get together. Covered bridges mainly include covered bridges, stone arch bridges, Mu Ping covered bridges, storm bridges and pavilion bridges.

Among them, the covered bridge is located in the mountainous area at the junction of Fujian and Zhejiang, especially Taishun, Zhejiang, and is known as the hometown of covered bridges. There are more than 200 covered bridges, including ancient covered bridges 100. At the end of 2005, Zhejiang Qingyuan, Taishun, Jingning, Fujian Shouning, Pingnan, Fuding and other counties and cities jointly declared the covered bridge on the National Preparatory List of World Cultural Heritage.
