Cowardly mouse whimsical

Whenever we see a mouse, our first reaction is to "beat it up", and indeed, "everyone calls out to beat up a mouse that has passed through the street". This shows how bad our impression of rats is, and we even think of them as symbols of laziness, meanness, cunningness and cowardice.

While rats are so abominable, there are a few interesting stories about rats in history, and now let's take a look at the role that rats play in these stories.

Who went to hang the bell for the cat

A long time ago, in a small town in the United States, there lived a rich family. There were too many mice in the house, so the owner bought a cat to catch the mice.

Sure enough, the mice were reduced, and the owner was very happy, and the cat continued to work as a guard.

One day, in a remote corner of the house, a lively discussion was taking place!

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the purpose of this discussion I have called today is to find a way to deal with that damnable dead cat. It has already killed many of our compatriots, and if we don't find a way to deal with it, sooner or later, our lives will be lost. Please speak up." Chief Mouse said.

The mice listened and raised their hands to speak. The Mouse Chief had to let them come one by one. First, Warrior A stood up and spoke:

"I suggest that while that dead cat is chasing us, we deliberately lead him to a mouse trap, so that he can get caught in it. That way, he'll never be able to chase us again."

Warrior B heard this and was very unimpressed, so he stood up and said:

"This is a very dangerous way for us, what if he eats us before we can get to the mouse trap? So I think that taking fire to him while he is asleep is the best way."

"No, this method is also dangerous for us. I have the best way to hang a bell around his neck while he sleeps.

This way, in the future, whenever we hear the sound of the bell, we can run away quickly, and we will never be afraid of being caught by him again, what do you think?" Warrior C looked at everyone smugly.

The mice all agreed with this and applauded.

"Now that everyone is in favor of it, who has volunteered to hang the bell for the dead cat?" Chief Mouse asked.

"Since no one wants to go, and you made this suggestion, I think you should go."

"I ....... I don't dare to go, you'd better find someone else!" After saying that, Warrior C stopped talking.

As a result, none of the mice dared to go, so to this day, the group of mice are still being chased by that cat!

Who Likes to Eat Stinky Rats

During the Warring States period, Zhuangzi and Huishi were good friends. The two often debated their views on anything together.

On one occasion, Huishi became the prime minister of Wei. Knowing this, Zhuang Zi wanted to visit his old friend in Wei.

Some slanderous people in Wei said to Huishi:

"Zhuangzi may have ulterior motives for coming to Wei this time. He may be trying to take over your position as a minister, so be careful!

"Hmm! They have quite a point." Huishi thought to himself. So he sent many soldiers to search for Zhuangzi's residence all over the state of Wei.

The soldiers searched for three days and three nights without finding Zhuangzi, but on the fourth morning, Zhuangzi came to visit Huishi in person.

"Old friend, do you know that there is a bird in the south called the Bird of Prey? It is a very precious and exotic bird that flies from the South China Sea to the North Sea. On its way, it never rests on anything other than a sycamore tree, never eats anything other than the fruit of the bamboo, and never drinks anything other than the sweet water of the spring. When it is flying at ease, there happens to be an owl on the ground, just caught a stinky mouse, the owl thought to come to snatch their own stinky mice, it preempted to the angry hoot! I said, "Huishi! You're not going to use the Minister of Wei to shout angrily at me, are you? When Zhuangzi finished speaking, he looked at Huishi with a smile on his face.

Huishi felt very ashamed, embarrassed, and said to Zhuangzi:

"This .......... is the first time I've seen the world. is that I am treating the gentleman's heart with a small man's heart; let me make amends to you with a banquet of wine!"

The Lucky Cow

During the Warring States period, the monarchs of various countries were profit-oriented and attacked each other, making the people's lives very miserable.

On one occasion, King Xuan of Qi was sitting in the hall when he saw a servant leading an ox through the corridor in front of the hall, and King Xuan of Qi asked the servant:

"Where are you taking the ox?"

"Reporting back to the king, I am going to take this sacrificial ox to slaughter, and then apply its blood to the bell." The servant replied respectfully.

When King Xuan of Qi heard this, he looked at the ox and said:

"Let it go! I can't bear to see it trembling with fear in that state, as if an innocent person were to be tortured!"

"Then don't use the animal's blood on the clock?"

"How can this rite be discarded? You can just catch a goat and kill it, and put its blood on the bell!" King Xuan of Qi said.

When Mencius heard about this, he came to King Xuan of Qi and advised him, saying:

"Your compassion, my lord, is the art of benevolence! But you only see that the cows are pitiful, and you don't see that the sheep are pitiful too. If you can extend this love for animals to love for people, then you can be the king of the world!"

The Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden

The Weaving Maiden lived on the east side of the Heavenly River. She was the youngest daughter of the Heavenly Emperor, and because she was very good at weaving, everyone called her "Weaving Maiden".

The Weaving Maiden worked hard and busily every day to weave cloth. In the morning, she weaves the sunrise with its bright sunlight; at noon, she produces a clear sky with no clouds; at dusk, she weaves the sunset with its colorful clouds; and at night, she is busy decorating the black brocade with bright stars.

She worked hard every day, but she was very lonely, so she was always moping. On the west side of the River of Heaven there was a cowherd whose job was to feed the cows in the sky. His job was to feed the cows in heaven. He had to feed the cows and bathe them, and he had a lot of work to do every day. But the Cowherd was a hard-working young man, and he worked hard every day to keep the cows in the sky strong and good, and the Heavenly Emperor admired him very much.

One day, the Heavenly Emperor summoned the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden.

"Weaving Maiden, I see that you work very hard every day, but you are always unhappy. You are not too young, I want to betroth you to Cowherd, I wonder if you are willing?" The Heavenly Emperor asked the Weaving Maiden.

The Weaving Maiden knew that Cowherd was an honest and responsible young man, so she said:

"Everything is up to Father." When she finished speaking, she bowed her head shyly. The Heavenly Emperor was very happy to see this, and said to Cowherd:

"Cowherd, I favor this little daughter the most, she can be said to be multi-talented. I see that you are also a promising young man, and now I am going to betroth my daughter to you, and I wonder if you are willing to do so?"

The Cowherd looked at the Weaving Maiden and thought she was a gentle and lovely girl, so he readily agreed.

From then on, the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden lived a very loving life. They often held hands and traveled in the sky, enjoying the scenery. The Weaving Maiden found everything so new and interesting, because she had never traveled before, and her busy schedule had made it impossible for her to take a break.

The Cowherd, too, used to have to herd cows, so he could only go to the grasslands every time, but now with the Weaving Maiden as his companion, he is really happy to travel around together.

But they both forgot about each other's work. The Weaving Maiden forgot to weave, and as a result the sky was blank, and there was no more beautiful sky color; and the Cowherd forgot to watch the cows, and as a result the heavenly cows were running around, making a mess of the Heavenly Court. The Heavenly Emperor said to them angrily:

"You two have disappointed me too much, you only know how to have fun all day long, but you have neglected your own work, I have decided to punish you properly. From today onwards, each of you will return to your own work, and you will only be able to see each other once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month, and you will not be allowed to see each other except on this day. If you disobey the order you will be put to death."

From then on, the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden had to endure the pain of longing for each other while they worked, just looking forward to the seventh day of the seventh month.

The magpies sympathized with the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden and built a bridge for them on the 7th day of the 7th month every year, so that they could meet each other on the bridge and talk to each other about their love for each other.

The Tiger's Fool

While the lion is regarded as the king of all beasts in the West, the king of all beasts in ancient China was the tiger!

The Chinese have long regarded the tiger as a secretive and inviolable animal, and have always feared it. Whenever a tiger is mentioned, people's faces turn pale, and when they see a tiger, they may be so scared that their souls fly away. The tiger is the embodiment of power, bravery, danger and fighting. There are so many wonderful things about tigers that we can't stop talking about them, so let's take our time and look at them!

The Fox and the Tiger

A long, long time ago, there was a big tiger in the mountains, and he made a very high wish for himself: he must finish eating a hundred kinds of beasts!

Just as the tiger had finished the ninety-nine kinds of beasts, and was searching for the last one, he caught a cunning fox.

When the tiger was about to swallow the hundredth beast, the cunning fox was furious and shouted at the tiger:

"Wait a minute!

Wait a minute, you arrogant, ungrateful tiger, you don't even open your eyes to see who I am, and then you dare to try to eat me with your teeth and claws, you are really daring! I am the king of all beasts appointed by the Heavenly Emperor. If you offend me, you will be offending the Heavenly Emperor! Then you'll be in deep shit. Don't be so glowering. The whole forest knows about the Emperor's order. If you don't believe me, just follow me around the outside, okay?"

The tiger did not believe it 99% of the time, but he was afraid of the one percent chance, so he followed the fox into the forest.

As the fox said, all the animals ran away as soon as they saw them. The tiger was so scared that he ran away too. When the fox saw this, he thought to himself, "You're a stupid tiger! You've been tricked by me and you still don't know it. The animals fled because they saw you! Haha ............."

Three men make a tiger

During the Warring States period, the crown prince of Wei was sent to Handan, the capital of Zhao, as a hostage, and among the people who went with him was Pang Gong, a famous minister of Wei.

Before his departure, Pang Gong said to the king of Wei:

"If a man were to say that a tiger has appeared in the busy street, would you believe him?

"Of course not!" The king of Wei replied at once.

"If two people ran at the same time that there was a big tiger in the bustling street, would you believe it?" Pang Gong asked again.

"Still don't believe it." The King of Wei immediately replied.

"Then would you believe it if three people said in unison that there was a tiger in the street?" Pang Gong then asked

"I don't think so. Pang Gong then asked

The King of Wei thought for a while and answered:

"I would believe it."

So Pang Gong advised the King of Wei:

"It is clear that there is no tiger in the street, but as long as there are many people talking about it, there is a possibility that a tiger is really there. Handan is much farther away than the streets, and there are more than three people who have criticized me, so I hope that if someone slanders me in the future, you will be able to see it clearly," said the king.

But after Pang Gong left, there were so many people who slandered him that the king of Wei finally stopped using him.

The White Rabbit

The rabbit was a very gentle animal, and anyone who saw it could not help but touch it.

The rabbit's sense of hearing is very sensitive, and its long ears detect all directions, so any wind that blows cannot escape its ears. The rabbit's speed is so fast that many animals can't keep up with it. For this gentle, cute and agile animal, we certainly want to see what kind of legend happens to it.

Rabbit and dog race

Once upon a time, there was a rabbit in Qi named Dong Guo balked, a scampering rabbit. There was also a dog named Han Zilu who also ran very fast.

So many of the animals in the forest, who loved to watch, encouraged them to compete to see who could run faster.

"Let us run around this mountain three times, and then up and down it five times, and see who can run fast and in good spirits." The rabbit and the dog made a promise to each other, and the race began.

The race was big news in the forest, and there were many animals on the way to cheer them on.

"Come on! Rabbit, run faster!

"Come on, Han Zilu! You're catching up to that rabbit."

The sound of cheering along the way made the east balked and Han Zilu run as hard as they could. The rabbit flew through the forest, and the dog ran as fast as he could.

After a short time, the rabbit and the dog ran the entire distance.

Only the rabbit staggered over.

"I .......... I ............. No ............. I can't ............. anymore." With these words, the rabbit collapsed and died at the finish line.

The dog chased after the rabbit, but he lost to the rabbit by one step, and died behind the rabbit.

All the animals were saddened to see this. Then a woodcutter came, and when the animals saw the woodcutter, they dispersed.

When the woodcutter saw the rabbit and the dog on the ground, he was very happy:

"Hahaha! What a gift from heaven! I didn't expect that I would pick up a rabbit and a dog for nothing, it was really a great success."

So the woodcutter went back with the rabbit and the dog in his arms.

Waiting for the rabbit

During the Warring States period, there was a farmer from the state of Song who worked hard in the fields every day to support his family.

One day, when the farmer was working in the field again as usual, he saw a rabbit running very fast, and when it came out of the grass, it accidentally crashed into a big tree beside the field.

Wow! How could this happen? I am so lucky. If a big rabbit like this came to me every day, wouldn't it be more profitable than plowing the fields? Besides, the work in the fields is so busy, it's not as easy as picking up rabbits under a tree," the farmer thought. The farmer thought to himself, and picked up the rabbit and went home.

From then on, the farmer stopped plowing his fields and sat under the tree next to his field every day, waiting for the rabbit to kill itself by hitting the tree. As the days went by, no rabbit came, but the farmer continued to sit under the tree every day.

"I don't believe it! I don't believe it! If I can't wait today, I'll wait tomorrow!"

After several months, not only did he not find any rabbits, but he didn't even see any rabbits! The farmer's plots of land were also barren because they hadn't been plowed for too long.

The Magic Dragon

The phrase "a dragon's head is not seen, nor its tail seen" describes the mystery, preciousness and unpredictability of the dragon.

The dragon was originally an imaginary and legendary beast that no one had ever seen with their own eyes, but it has become the spiritual symbol of the Chinese people. But it has become the spiritual symbol of the Chinese people. See, "dragon" in the Chinese people's mind now occupies a very peculiar position. The dragon is not only a sign of good fortune, but also a spiritual creature. I think the legend of this precious beast will be even more legendary, right?

The consequences of playfulness

Once upon a time, there was a white dragon, which was very playful, because the dragon's body was too long, and it was not fun to play in the water, so it used to turn into a fish, dive into the water, and swim around in the water at ease.

On this day, the white dragon again turned into a fish and jumped into the river, swimming and playing in the water. A fisherman happened to come along, and when he saw this unusual fish, he hastened to pick up an arrow and shoot at it. But the arrow was slightly off, and only hit the fish's (White Dragon's) eye.

"Oops! What a pity! If I had hit the fish, I would have been able to sell it for a good price." The fisherman lamented, and went off to fish elsewhere.

The White Dragon was so furious at being shot in the eye that it bore the arrow wound and leapt up into the sky to complain to the Jade Emperor.

"Jade Emperor, today I turned into a fish and went to play in a mortal river. Unexpectedly, I was shot in the left eye by a reckless fisherman, and from now on I am a one-eyed dragon, which is detrimental to the face of the dragon. I beg the Jade Emperor to chastise that abominable fisherman."

The Jade Emperor listened calmly to the White Dragon's account, but instead chided the White Dragon, saying, "Shooting fish is what a fisherman should do, so what is there to chastise? It was you who wanted to degrade yourself and turn the dragon into a fish that brought about this undeserved calamity, how can you blame others?"

While the white dragon heard this, although it was still very angry in its heart, since the Jade Emperor had ruled so, it did not dare to disobey him and take revenge on its own, so it could only consider itself to be unlucky.

Emperor rides the dragon to heaven

In ancient times, the Yellow Emperor was a very wise monarch, who once defeated the invader Chi You for the survival of the nation. In the era of the Yellow Emperor was also a period of great inventions in ancient history, boats and carts, calendars, arithmetic, music, etc., were invented in this era.

In his later years, the Yellow Emperor invented the tripod. When the first tripod was cast, a dragon suddenly flew down from the sky, a dragon with mighty eyes and long, shining silver whiskers, the whole body of which was permeated with golden light, and descended as if it had brought ten thousand pi of golden wrought, enveloping the whole sky.

The Yellow Emperor and his ministers were astonished. The dragon slowly approached the Yellow Emperor, his eyes became very gentle, and he suddenly spoke to the Yellow Emperor, saying, "The Heavenly Emperor is very happy to see that you have prompted Chinese civilization to take another step forward, and so he has sent me to take you up to heaven for an audience with the Heavenly Emperor."

When the Yellow Emperor heard this, he nodded, and straddled the dragon's back, and said to his ministers, "The Heavenly Emperor is going to summon me, so take care of yourselves, and goodbye."

"Please let us go after you!" When the ministers finished speaking, they rushed up, hoping to climb onto the dragon's back and go with the Yellow Emperor. But the dragon twisted its body and dropped all those people.

The golden dragon flew quickly up into the sky with the Yellow Emperor on its back, and all of a sudden it disappeared into the clouds. The ministers had no choice but to watch the Yellow Emperor ascend into the sky and go.

One of the ministers looked at the sky and said thoughtfully, "Not everyone can go up there! Only someone as great as the Yellow Emperor is qualified!"

The people who came afterward called the place where the Yellow Emperor ascended to heaven "Dinghu" in honor of this emperor.

The Clever Snake Doctor

I don't think we all have a soft spot for snakes, do we? Just thinking about its soft and slippery body and the way it spits out its mail makes you feel uncomfortable.

Snakes and dragons are worlds apart. According to ancient books, the sight of a dragon is a sign of good fortune, while the sight of a snake is a sign of drought. However, in today's advanced science, we can only laugh at this kind of record, after all, snakes also have its lovely side, why don't we look at it from another angle?

Dr. Snake

Once upon a time, there was a Zen Buddhist monk in Lin'an who, in addition to memorizing sutras, often traveled around to see the mountains and forests.

On one occasion, when the monk was wandering in the mountains, he saw a snake with a swollen belly like a big water tank in the grass not far away. In such a sorry situation, only the snake chose a few leaves and swallowed them, and only after a while, the snake's belly became flat again!

"Wow! I've heard that snakes are able to collect medicinal herbs and recognize all kinds of herbs, and today I've seen that the rumor is true. The leaves that the snake ate just now must be a kind of precious medicine, why don't I pick some back, and if I come across this kind of disease again in the future, I will utilize these leaves to cure it." After saying this, the monk went up to the enterprise, collected many of those leaves, and took them home.

One day, the monk went back down the mountain to travel in the clouds. When he was staying at the inn, he heard a very painful moaning sound in the next room.

"Hey, what's wrong with the guest in the next room? Is something wrong?" The monk went to the next room and asked about it. It turned out that the guest's stomach was swollen, and he couldn't sleep because of the pain, so he couldn't stop moaning.

"Oh, that's right, I have the 'medicine for bloating' here, I'll go and decoct a little bit for you to eat," he said.

The monk immediately went back to his room and decocted a dose of the leaves he had picked last time and gave it to his guest. It was indeed a precious medicine! It was only a matter of a cup of tea before the guest's stomach subsided.

"Thank you so much, if it wasn't for you, I don't know what kind of pain I would have had."

"There, you are welcome. Helping people is the key to happiness, and I am very happy to see your stomach swelling.

The two of them thanked each other and went to bed.

Early the next morning, after the monk had finished his morning prayers, he didn't see his friend next door come out, and he was a little worried.

"The sound of running water seems to be coming from his room, what is going on?" he said. The monk thought to himself and shouted his guest's name, but there was no response. The more the monk thought about it, the more wrong he became, so he hurriedly pushed open the door.

The scene in front of him scared the monk to death, only to see the poor guest, the flesh and blood of his body turned into water, only a withered bone lying diagonally on the bedside.

Snake repaying kindness

Cui Wei saw a lonely beggar woman in the bazaar, because she hadn't eaten for many days, she was so hungry that she was dizzy, and she walked staggeringly, and I don't know how, but she knocked over the wine of the drinkers by the side of the road, and the group of youths scolded the beggar woman furiously, and a few of them wanted to beat her up!

Cui Wei, who was watching from the sidelines, was very sympathetic to the beggar woman. Although he did not have any money on him, he took off his own clothes to pay for the wine, and relieved the beggar woman of her burden.
