How did rope skipping develop in ancient times?

It is said that a long time ago, there was a Jiao Hu temple in Jinling area, and there was an immortal rope in the temple, which was said to be the "Binding Rope of Immortal" of the ancient immortal general Tu Xing Sun. It was said that this rope could not only bind the immortals, but also had other effects. It is rumored that if one jumps 100 times with this rope, one will fall asleep from exhaustion, and then one can experience many wonderful things in one's dreams.

At that time, there was a man named Yang Lin, although he made his living as a merchant, but because he was too rigid in his mind, his business did not do well and he always lost money, so he was sad all day long. Yang Lin very much hoped that one day he could have a lucky break, like suddenly make a fortune somewhere and become a tycoon.

On this day, Yang Lin brought goods to sell in the villages outside of Jinling city, he was sweating profusely as he walked, and the burden he carried on his shoulder seemed to weigh a thousand pounds, weighing him down. Yang Lin was looking for a place to take a rest, and it just so happened that he passed by the Jiao Hu Temple, so he planned to go in and rest his feet.

Yang Lin saw that there were many Bodhisattvas in the temple, so he knelt down in front of the Bodhisattvas and prayed, reciting under his breath, "Bodhisattvas, please bless me with good fortune, make me rich, and live a happy and joyful life for the rest of my life!"

The temple monk heard Yang Lin's plea and said to him, "I can let you experience the life you want, will you?"

Yang Lin was overjoyed and busily said, "Really? Hooray, hooray, I'm so willing!"

So the monk took out that magical bundle of immortality rope and gave it to Yang Lin, saying, "Take this rope and jump 100 times first!"

Yang Lin doubtfully took the Immortal Binding Rope, and with his feet together, he used the rope to flip back and forth and jump. Just when Yang Lin had jumped enough for 100 times, he felt weak and drained and wanted to sleep.

Yang Lin unknowingly dropped the rope, closed his eyes and lay down on the ground, and in a short while he was in dreamland. In his dream, Yang Lin found himself to a big family, where pavilions, lakes and mountains, birds and flowers, the house is even more elegant and luxurious, a rich and noble weather.

The high-ranking lieutenant warmly welcomed Yang Lin into the living room and talked and laughed with him. Because they chatted so vigorously, the Lord Lieutenant fell in love with him and, wanting him to be his son-in-law, betrothed his daughter to him.

So Yang Lin followed his father-in-law and became a great official, and he also had a fortune, and his wife, who was like a flower, was gentle and virtuous, and gave him six big fat sons.

And each of these six sons of Yang Lin was very capable, either as a general or a prime minister, and the family was so honored that everyone envied him.

In this dream, Yang Lin had the honor of enjoying endless glory and wealth, and he lived a carefree life, surrounded by his wife and children, and he lived a happy life. In the blink of an eye several decades have passed, he has long forgotten the reality of life.

Suddenly, Yang Lin woke up with a start, and he realized that he was still in the temple, lying on the floor of the temple hall, and that the rope that binds the immortals around him was still there. But all those wonderful things in his dream were gone, only the unsold goods around him were still in place, and he began to suffer again.

Yang Lin thought that the rope could bring him back to his dream, so he picked up the rope and jumped again, and he jumped three to five hundred times, exhausted and still could not enter the dream.

The original monk came over, snatched the rope back from Yang Lin, and taught him earnestly, "Young man, this rope can only be used once! People can't live in a dream, if you want to be happy and fulfilled, you must be down-to-earth, step by step to break through on your own, so that the wealth that comes from this is real. This world is fair, it's like starting you to jump rope with the bundle of immortal rope, you want to get the beautiful dream, you must jump enough 100 times, to experience this hard work before you can do it."

Yang Lin was y moved by what he heard, and he took note of the monk's words and began to live with his feet on the ground. He worked hard selling goods and started to accumulate wealth one minute at a time, and finally he became a rich man and lived a happy and fulfilling life.
