Powder refers to the dry powder preparation made of drugs or suitable excipients by crushing and mixing. Powder is one of the oldest traditional dosage forms, and there are a large number of powder records in Treatise on Febrile Diseases, Bielu of Famous Doctors and Shennong Herbal Classic.

At present, the dosage form of traditional Chinese medicine usually adopts powder, and traditional Chinese medicine powder refers to a powdery preparation made of medicinal materials or medicinal material extracts by crushing and mixing evenly. China Pharmacopoeia (version 20 15) contains more than 50 kinds of Chinese medicine powders, such as Qili powder and Bawei Qingxin Sean powder. In modern medical treatment, due to the development of modern solid dosage forms such as tablets and capsules, the powders of chemical drugs are not common. Only taurine powder and fosfomycin tromethamine powder are listed in the second part of China Pharmacopoeia (20 15 edition).

Powder can not only be directly used as dosage form, but also be used as an intermediate of other dosage forms such as granules, capsules, tablets, suspensions, aerosols, powder sprays and sprays. Therefore, the preparation technology and requirements of powder have universal significance in other dosage forms.
