Scarborough Fair Music Original Singer
"Scarborough Fair" was originally sung by Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel.
"Scarborough Fair" was originally an old English folk song whose origins can be traced all the way back to the Middle Ages. It was selected by the father of English folk song, McCaw, for inclusion in a book he edited on English folk songs. The English folk singer Martin Carthy later added his own reinvention to the original song, turning it into a love song.
Simon learned the song under Carthy in England. He then reinvented it by mixing an anti-war song he had written, The Side Of A Hill, with the song as a chorus.
Lyrics:
Are you going to Scarborough Fair.
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt.
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Without no seams nor needle work.
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell her to find me an acre of land.
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Between the salt water and the sea strands.
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather.
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
And gather it all in a bunch of heather.
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair.
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.
