With the continuous iteration of architecture, we look back at the homesickness of traditional residential settlements and look for the appropriate scale from the revival practice of traditional residential settlements to create an intimate relationship between the present and the future.

"Revival" pays attention to the humanistic feelings of traditional residential settlements, while "practice" is an exploration of the inheritance of local culture. Wonderful dialogue between AG, member of Yunnan Urban and Rural Planning Technical Committee, and Yanwu, design director of gad, from Zhang Fang to Fuxian Lake.

Traditional villages in any place have their own unique mode of living together and behavior passed down from generation to generation. They are a spiritual and cultural force with normative functions and moral demands for social behavior, and also the accumulation of creative wisdom of local residents.

On May 23, 2020, with the theme of "local practice in the gradual revival of traditional residential settlements", the products of Shan Yu Academy in Fuxian Lake were released and Tuzhangfang returned to the discussion. An architectural art salon on the practice of traditional architecture revival was launched in the lake wind in early summer.

Therefore, many experts and scholars, such as members of Yunnan Urban and Rural Planning Technical Committee, national first-class registered architect, gad design director Mr. AG, and Chongqing partner, were invited to discuss the revival practice of traditional residential buildings along Fuxian Lake.

AG: Traditional residential settlements are carriers of local culture.

"Tuzhangfang contains local national culture and beliefs, and also inherits a lot of wisdom about human settlements. It is also a display of Yunnan culture and Fuxian Lake lifestyle. " Professor AG has a deep affection for the architecture of Tu Zhang Fang, and shared the past lives of Tu Zhang Fang with many on-site guests.

Tu Zhang Fang is a local building in Yunnan, which is an intuitive embodiment of local people's production and life, especially marked by the roof of Tu Zhang Fang. Its main function is waterproof, and it can also be used as a place for adults to chat, children to play and even treat people to the threshing floor to set meals. It represents a green and healthy life, neighborhood relations, and the integration of life and nature.

With the continuous development and progress of society, the earth palm house in material form is gradually dying out. Architects need to revive this beauty that represents local culture and life in this historical process.

Teacher AG also mentioned at the scene that architects should be sensitive enough to cut into the balance between nature and human settlements. The revival practice of traditional residential settlements is not only the inheritance of architectural forms and characteristics, but also the capture of multi-level feelings between residential buildings and people and nature, so as to realize real revival.

Yanwu: Revival practice is to explore and repair the relationship between man and nature.

"The revival practice of traditional residential settlements is to effectively inherit local culture in the new planning and design, strive to find living platforms and scenes, and build a communication bridge connecting history, present and future between similar topographic structures and the same national beliefs, so as to better continue the traditional cultural characteristics and bring new order and significance to residential life." This is the understanding of gad design director Mr. Yanwu on the local practice of reviving traditional residential areas.

Mr. Yanwu believes that the revival practice of traditional residential areas is to explore and repair the harmonious relationship between man and nature. Tuzhangfang, as a representative of traditional residential buildings in Fuxian Lake area, was built on the mountain according to the original conditions of the settlement, and made use of local raw materials, paying attention to the relationship between architecture and sunshine and wind, forming a living space that is warm in winter and cool in summer, which has rich guiding significance for our current architecture.

Under the guidance of this significance, the design of Shan Yu Courtyard of Fuxian Lake also fully draws lessons from the architectural style of Tufu: instead of changing nature by human behavior, it conforms to nature and fully considers the relationship between man and nature. In a sense, it is a return to the essence of life-from a fast-paced era to a traditional lifestyle, from a materialistic era to a return to exploring the heart.

The guests also had a rich dialogue with the two architects. From the Yunnan lifestyle represented by Tuzhangfang settlement architecture to the significance of reviving traditional residential settlements in modern diversified holiday scenes; From today's discussion on "Poetry and Distance" with the acceleration of urbanization, to the nostalgia of China in the practice of the revival of traditional earthen palm houses. ...

The Shan Yu Siheyuan in Fuxian Lake was officially released at the event site, which was inspired by the architecture of Tuzhangfang and absorbed the local lifestyle.

Shan Yu Courtyard interprets the local culture and narrates the way of life by means of architecture, providing ideal space and imagination for everyone. This is the concept that Vanke designers are practicing, and it is also the form that Fuxian Lake has been trying to present. Respecting local traditional culture and relying on nature to create a beautiful living life is the product proposition of Shan Yu Academy in Fuxian Lake, and it is also the local practice of the gradual revival of traditional residential settlements.

The Practice of Local Revival of Traditional Courtyard Settlements in Shan Yu

The traditional villages around Fuxian Lake are scattered in the rolling green hills. In the planning and design of Shan Yu quadrangles, this state of being large and scattered, but living in a small place has been restored to the greatest extent. In the primitive valley, the buildings of Shan Yu Courtyard are distributed in an "island" style, living by the mountain, seemingly independent and randomly connected.

Shan Yu Siheyuan draws lessons from the architectural layout of Palm Garden. Around the vision of "one household, one courtyard and one view", holiday units of different sizes are gradually upgraded according to the terrain and attached to the natural distortion of the terrain, so that each Siheyuan can have a unique mountain view.

Between buildings, the atrium and corridor are cleverly designed, so that nature can transition into buildings, and you can enjoy the wind and light in the valley equally.

In the architectural form of quadrangles in Shan Yu, it embodies the characteristics of traditional residential houses.

The first is the building facade, which is processed from the original materials on the shore of Fuxian Lake and painted on the facade, forming a rough and delicate sense of simplicity with an earthy architectural atmosphere. Amber white and earth tone design, exquisite lines, simple and heavy shape. At the same time, it pays attention to large transparent spaces such as open balconies, terraces and bay windows, and pays attention to the interaction with nature. Combined with the modern aesthetic style of simplicity, simplicity and rebirth are combined. This natural and unadorned facade is simple and beautiful, and it is also a realistic simulation of the original state of the valley.

In the space of architecture, we can also find the deduction of the form of earth tent workshop. In the roof design of the building, overlapping terraces, flower ponds and other spaces are a conceptual grafting of the image of Zhang Fang, which not only brings easy interaction between man and nature, but also creates a comfortable holiday life scene, naturally forming a contrast between the heavy meaning of traditional buildings and the relaxed and comfortable holiday atmosphere in the valley. A sunny courtyard or terrace with spacious indoor space can integrate the building space with the mountain. Shan Yu quadrangles respond to people's beautiful yearning for life with the simple design of traditional settlements.
