What is "soft" functionalism and what are the characteristics of the new style?
When the functionalism advocated by Bauhaus influenced the design of Scandinavian countries, the extreme form of functionalism did not go deep, and all kinds of furniture and household products needed a softer and more humanized design method than functionalism, which was called "soft" functionalism. Those designs that keep up with the international trend, on the one hand, maintain the innovative functionalism spirit, on the other hand, apply traditional materials such as wood in a mass-produced way. The furniture in this stage clearly shows the characteristics of this new style: simple structural technology based on straight lines, light modeling visually and actually, and practical principles of using natural materials such as leather and wood without losing functionality.
