How is the high-speed rail braked?
In order to achieve greater deceleration, high-speed trains in various countries not only brake all the moving shafts, but also install braking devices on the slave shafts. For example, Shinkansen trains are equipped with dual braking systems of electric braking and disc braking for all axles.
TGV trains combine electric braking with wheel tread braking for the auxiliary shaft, and only disc braking for the auxiliary shaft; ICE combines the electric braking of the shaft with the disc braking, and the eddy track braking with the electric braking of the driven shaft.
However, domestic high-speed trains are powered by distributed multiple units. Therefore, in the normal braking process, regenerative braking is given priority, that is, the motor reverses and becomes a generator, so that the kinetic energy of the EMU can be converted into electrical energy, and the electrical energy can be sent to the catenary for use by other EMUs in adjacent sections.
Extended data
Power source of high-speed rail:
The electricity of high-speed railway is generated by power plant and sent to traction substation through transmission line, and then supplied to railway through catenary. Most high-speed trains in the world are driven by electricity, that is, through the overhead high-voltage power grid along the railway (in China, the power frequency single-phase voltage is 2.5 kV).
The domestic electrified railway power supply system is power frequency single-phase AC, with the rated voltage of traction network reaching 27.5kv and catenary 25kv, all of which are high voltage. High-speed trains, bullet trains, etc. It is not always connected to the power grid, but often passes through a section without electricity (between the traction substation and the power supply arm, called "electrical phase separation"), about 100 meter.
When passing through this area, the train has no electricity and glides through this area by inertia. Because this interval is very short, there is basically no feeling when taking the train.
