Li Fangzi died on April 30, 1989 She was eighty-seven years old. She was given a quasi-state funeral with the status of the Crown Princess of Korea, following the old order, with Prince Mikasa Miyagi Shonin and his consort Yuriko participating in the ceremony on the Japanese side. She was later posthumously awarded the Korean National Order of Geunhyeon (First Class). She was posthumously awarded the posthumous title of Crown Princess () of Hyeondeokjeongmu Wonjeongjeoksang.
