It was a sunny fall day, cool, blue and gold. Kevin and his friend Katie boarded the school bus for the Pampukin Patch title. They sit on a bench and have fun bouncing around in the back. But Katie is grumpy. She didn't want to go on the trip. She hated the cold weather and fall pumpkins and everything. The bus stopped at the farm. There was an orange pumpkin wagon and a tractor next to a big pile. Everyone ran for the wagon. Kevin and Katie sat in the front as it led up. They watched the huge wheels of the tractor bumping slowly over the rutted dirt road. More bouncing! Then the tractor stopped. Long rows of pumpkins on either side of the road lay in the dust, each wrapped in its own vine. They were all different sizes and shades of orange with patches of light brown. ......
