Geographic Population Growth Patterns

There are three patterns of population growth, which can be summarized as follows:

(1) Primitive: high high low

In primitive societies, there are many newborn babies, but medical and health conditions are poor, and the average life expectancy of people is not high. Therefore it shows: high birth rate, high death rate, low natural growth rate.

(2) Traditional: High-Low-High

In modern times, there are still many newborn babies, but with the improvement of medical and health conditions, people's average life expectancy is extended. Therefore it shows: high birth rate, low death rate, high natural growth rate.

(3) Modern type: low-low-low-low

Modern times, people's concept of birth has changed, and the concept of "raising children to prevent old age" has been gradually abandoned, resulting in fewer newborn babies; however, at the same time, the health care industry has become more and more developed, and people's life expectancy has been extended. As a result, the birth rate is low, the death rate is low, and the natural growth rate is low.
