Methods and skills of promoting germination of melon seeds

1, improper treatment of coated seeds leads to uneven germination.

Seed coating agent is generally composed of chemicals and dyes. Therefore, the coated seeds will not germinate or germinate unevenly if they are not handled properly in the soaking process. For this kind of seeds, soak them in warm water at 35℃ for about 15 minutes before soaking, then gently wash off the seed coating agent by hand, and then soak them to accelerate germination.

2. Soaking seeds in warm soup has a certain effect.

The suitable temperature for soaking melon seeds in warm soup is 50-55℃. If the temperature is too high, the seeds will be damaged. Pay attention to the following two points when soaking melon seeds in warm soup: First, strictly control the water consumption of soaking melon seeds, which is generally 5-6 times the amount of melon seeds; Second, the seed soaking process should be constantly stirred. When the water temperature drops to 25-30℃, seeds should be soaked at constant temperature for 4-6 hours. Then, the seeds should be taken out, the mucus on the seed coat should be wiped off, washed with clear water for 2-3 times, wrapped with wet cloth and germinated at 28-30℃.

Don't wrap the seeds with too wet cloth.

Some farmers often wrap the seeds with plain cloth for fear that the radicle after germination will damage the roots. Some farmers are afraid that there is not enough water for germination, so they soak the cloth before wrapping the seeds. These practices tend to suffocate seeds due to lack of oxygen. It is suggested to find a clean towel, scald it with boiling water, wring it out hard, and then spread the soaked seeds evenly and wrap them inside. This has good heat preservation and air permeability, which is beneficial to seed germination.

4. The germination temperature should be suitable.

The germination time of melon is generally 24-30 hours, and the optimum temperature for germination is 28℃-32℃, and the temperature should not be too high. If you use electric blanket to heat and accelerate germination, you should always observe the temperature and turn the seeds. In order to avoid high temperature, the seeds are cooked without germination, and the seeds germinate due to uneven heating.
