The cherry blossom is the national flower of Japan. The cherry blossom is popular among Japanese people and widely planted in Japan, and it is designated as the national flower of Japan together with the chrysanthemum, which symbolizes the royal family. The cherry blossoms of Mount Yoshino in Nara Prefecture are the most famous, so they are called "Yoshino thousand cherry blossoms". The entire Japanese cherry blossom season lasts about 50 days, but each region has only seven to ten days from the time the blossoms bloom to the time they fade.
