In the history of China, the Sui and Tang Dynasties were in the Middle Ages, which, in terms of time, was a period connecting the past with the future and had an important historical position. Of course, this period was one of the most prosperous political, economic and cultural periods in China, especially in the Tang Dynasty, which had advanced political system, prosperous economy and developed culture, and played an important role not only in the history of China, but also in the history of human civilization. So people are still lamenting "dreaming back to the Tang Dynasty", which not only shows people's recollection of the past, but also shows their yearning for the Tang Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty existed for a short time in the whole history of China, and only experienced two emperors for 37 years. Compared with the glorious history of the Tang Dynasty for more than 280 years, this time people always feel that the status of the Sui Dynasty is far less than that of the Tang Dynasty. In fact, however, the Sui Dynasty ended the 300-year-long division since the Wei and Jin Dynasties, created another unified situation since the Qin and Han Dynasties, and laid the foundation for the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty. At the same time, its three provinces and six departments system and imperial examination system played a positive role in China's political development, and the excavation of the Grand Canal also promoted North-South exchanges and economic prosperity.
