The Legend of the Moon Goddess Chang 'e

The story began around 2 170 BC, after the flood in Xia dynasty. Yu, the king of many countries, is believed to have stopped floods and taught farmers how to cultivate their land, thus starting a prosperous era.

At the same time, in heaven, the Jade Emperor hopes to help farmers raise animals and cultivate their land. He ordered his ten sons to become ten suns, one at a time and one a day. Ten young people disobeyed; These ten suns come out every day, and the heat emitted by the ten suns at the same time makes the earth unbearable hot. People and animals died of high temperature, rivers dried up, the land became barren and forests were burnt.

The farmers prayed, offered sacrifices to heaven and burned incense for liberation. The jade emperor heard their prayers and saw the damage caused by his sons. He sent his bravest god Hou Yi down to earth, solved the problem of ten suns, and ended the disaster. Hou Yi is a kind and brave god. He has a beautiful wife, Chang 'e. They love each other deeply and are called a sacred couple. Chang 'e didn't like the idea of going down to earth, but she didn't want to be separated from her husband, so she went down to earth together and became a mortal in the Oriental clan.

Hou Yi was a great archer. He brought his bow from the sky. Knowing that Hou Yi came from heaven, the tribe announced that he was their leader.

Hou Yi saw how much pain and destruction the high temperature of the ten suns brought to mankind, so he climbed to the top of the mountain and began to negotiate with the suns to pity these unfortunate people. He begged the sun to cross the sky alone in turn, once a day, and explained that the white flame from ten suns was unbearable for the earth. Both of them were lonely. Mifei and Hou Yi became friends and later became lovers. According to legend, such a thing never goes unpunished. When Feng Yi came back to discover his wife's infidelity, he flew into a rage, turned himself into a white dragon, roared and jumped into the water, destroyed fields and killed many people. Hou Yi thinks dragons are evil sea monsters. He picked up a bow and arrow and shot Feng Qi in one eye. So the water god complained to the Jade Emperor. The emperor considered all the good things that Hou Yi had done for mankind, because he had been punished. The emperor only ordered Hou Yi to go home to see Chang 'e and never see waste again.

Hou Yi had no choice but to return to China. Chang 'e was angry at his infidelity, and there was unhappiness between the once-sacred couple. Knowing that he had wronged his wife, Hou Yi tried to comfort her, telling her that tears would make her grow old faster because they are all mortal now. Chang 'e looked at her reflection in the water, because there was no mirror at that time. She was afraid to see wrinkles around her eyes and asked Hou Yi to find some ways to restore her immortality.

Hou Yi was lonely and didn't dare to stay at home, but he couldn't go against the jade emperor's orders to find money. He became violent and drunk. He treats people cruelly when he is drunk. Two men began to plot against him, Feng Meng and Han Zhuo. Both of them are opportunists. Han Zhuo told Hou Yi that the royal goddess lived on the top of Kunlun Mountain and had an elixir of life.

Hou Yi decided that for the peace of his family, he would climb the Kunlun Mountain and ask the royal goddess for the elixir of life. She told Hou Yi that if a person takes this pill, he will ascend to heaven, but if he cuts the pill in half and shares it with another person, they can live forever. This pill must be taken on the evening of 15 of the eighth month, when the moon is the roundest. Hou Yi was very happy, thanked the ladies-in-waiting and returned to Chang 'e. They decided to separate the pills and take them at the right time, so that they could all live forever.

In the first three days of the eighth month 15, Hou Yi heard about a medicine called "Yudan", which can be found in Tianshan Mountain. It is a medicine that can prevent women from aging and keep them beautiful forever. He immediately went to Tianshan Mountain.

She was confused and excited. She thought that Hou Yi had abandoned her and swallowed the whole pill. She immediately felt her body lighter and rose to the sky. At this time, Hou Yi came back with Jade Dan and saw Chang 'e rising faster and faster.

The gods and goddesses in the sky despise Chang 'e because she abandoned her husband. Chang 'e had to change direction and head for the cold palace in the moon. Hou Yi watched on the ground, took out his magic bow and shot down the moon. He aimed, but he couldn't bear to kill his wife. Frustrated and sad, he destroyed his magic weapon and began to drink.

Feng Meng, the enemy of Houyi, watched, and when Houyi got drunk, he attacked Houyi and killed him. When Chang 'e came to the Moon Palace and saw how her husband was brutally killed, she deeply mourned what she had done. She broke off the relationship with the happy life in heaven and was entrusted with eternal life, alone on the moon and became the goddess of the moon.
