Herbal Medicine Cultivation

Sichuan is known as "the home of traditional Chinese medicine, the library of Chinese medicine". According to statistics, there are more than 5,000 kinds of Chinese medicine resources in Sichuan, including more than 4,600 kinds of botanical medicines, more than 320 kinds of animal medicines and more than 130 kinds of mineral medicines, accounting for about 75% of the varieties of Chinese herbal medicines; among them, there are more than 30 kinds of famous local herbs and herbs of main production, such as Ligusticum chuanxiong, Maitong, Huanglian, Phellodendron amurense, Cordyceps sinensis etc., are not only the varieties that exported to China in early days and with large quantity, but also occupy a pivotal position in the production and sales of domestic production and marketing in China. The main wild and cultivated (farmed) varieties of Chinese herbal medicines and their geographical distribution are summarized as follows:

Based on the natural geographic conditions and distribution of medicinal herbs in Sichuan Province, Sichuan medicines are divided into four major production areas:

Ⅰ. Sichuan Basin Herb Production Area - This area is located in the bottom of the Sichuan Basin, with better heat conditions than the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River at the same latitude, and mainly produces 1000 - 1500 kinds of herbs such as Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Maitong, Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Paeonia lactiflora, Radix et Rhizoma Pseudostemma, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Fructus Fructus, etc.

II. West Climbing Region Herb Production Area - including Liangshan Prefecture, Xichang City, Panzhihua City, Jinshajiang River Dry and Hot Valley, etc. With good water and heat conditions, it mainly produces more than 2,400 kinds of herbs such as Aloe vera, Poria cocos, Psoralea tonicifolia, Red halberd, Andrographis paniculata, Sichuan sequoia, Panax pseudoginseng, Scutellariae barbatae, Anti-fungus, Sarcophora saxifraga, and Sanguisorba.

III. Basin peripheral mountainous medicinal material production area - this area is rich in medicinal plant resources, is the largest precipitation area in Sichuan, about 1500-2000 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine resources, the main production of tianmu, Sichuan hyssop, eucommia, Houpao, cypress, ginkgo, yellow honeysuckle, honeysuckle, Chaihu, Xinyi, half-summer, saffron and other species

Specialized in the production of the Chinese medicine industry.

Ⅳ. Northwest Sichuan Plateau and West Sichuan Alpine Canyon Herb Production Area - the terrain of this area is high in the north and low in the south, with an altitude of 2500-5500m, mainly including Aba and Ganzi Prefecture, the environment is almost pollution-free, and produces a large number of valuable Chinese medicinal herbs, with the main productions of Sichuan Beimu, musk, red beansprout, Dioscorea opposita, Qiangwu, and Codonopsis pilosula, Cordyceps, Astragalus, Rhubarb, Gentiana Macrophylla,, Rhodiola Rosea, Snow Lotus, Artemisia annua, and about 1,800 other species.
