Why do the waist knives of Qing soldiers have to be worn backwards?

Judging from the existing paintings in the Qing Dynasty, most soldiers in the Qing Dynasty, especially flag bearers, wore waist knives with backward handles, which is also commonly known as reverse wearing. This is in sharp contrast with the way that the traditional hilt of China passes forward since the Tang and Song Dynasties. That is to say, this method of wearing broadsword is unique to the Qing Dynasty, so why did the guards of the Qing Dynasty wear broadsword backwards? Can this saber be pulled out at a critical moment?

In fact, not all samurai broadswords in the early Qing Dynasty were worn backwards. During the Daoguang period, a bodyguard named Geng Yi wrote a book "The Guardian's Words", which recorded that the guards' swords in Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty were all straight belts, with the hilt facing forward and the blade at the back, but in the late Qianlong period, they were worn in the opposite way. This sabre method also has a name in the mouth of the storyteller, and perhaps we can spy out one or two reasons through this name.

Focus? Taiping? The word "two" is a kind of etiquette. It is not good to draw your sword when you wear it backwards, especially when Shangguan uses this method. Combined with the social situation at that time, after the accumulation of Kangxi and Yongzheng periods, the Qing Dynasty reached its peak in Qianlong period, and the rule of Manchu Dynasty was consolidated. Taiping? It's no problem to show it on this saber.

Manchu people have been fishing and hunting people before entering the customs, and they are especially good at fighting immediately. Most of their soldiers are cavalry, so all weapons and equipment must be put into battle at once. If you put on the configuration of Qing cavalry, you can understand why you should wear the sabre backwards when riding, which is a standard action formed by cavalry's long-term combat.

When riding and shooting, if the handle is forward, the knife will be very inconvenient. And it may hurt the horse's head. If the handle is backward and the scabbard is slightly supported by the left hand, it is easy for the right hand to pull out the knife from behind. And there must be a bow and arrow behind the battle immediately, and the general quiver is also placed on the left side. Before the sword was drawn, the handle was easily blocked by the bow and arrow, and it was not even impossible to break the bow and arrow.

When sitting on the saddle with a big knife, the handle is roughly behind the waist, the arrow pot should be hung next to the right leg, and the left hand should hold the bow unchanged. Next, whether it is an archery attack or a sword chopping, you can respond in the first time, and there is no need for unnecessary actions!
