Huang Ziyuan (1837- 19 18), a native of Longtang Township, Anhua County, Hunan Province, was a calligrapher and industrialist in the late Qing Dynasty. Born in the 17th year of Daoguang (1837), he was raised in the countryside in the 6th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1867). The following year, the second place in the Palace Examination was awarded to imperial academy as editor. He used to be the examiner of Shuntian Township Examination and the deputy examiner of Jiangnan Township Examination. He died in 7 years (19 18). He has copied the book "Ninety-two Methods of Bookshelf Structure Summary" and made important contributions to the promotion of this book.

Huang Ziyuan's calligraphy can be used in all styles, and all kinds of works are circulated, among which the running script and regular script are the most influential. Huang Ziyuan's calligraphy art pursues both refined and popular tastes. His words are dignified and elegant, Jing Ya is introverted and rich in style, which has high artistic value and strong practical function. His style and aesthetic orientation inherited the calligraphy tradition initiated by Zhong You, Xian and others. His cursive script is particularly obvious, which shows the origin and inheritance of his calligraphy art. He studied under Wang Xizhi's Preface to Saint Education and Preface to Lanting, as well as Wang Xianzhi's Postscript to the Seventeenth Congress and Postscript to Yatou Pill. And the words are simple, impartial and cleaner than their predecessors. Although his pen use lacks changes, he pays attention to the pen as the center and is full of energy. His ink use reflects the common legacy of the Qing Dynasty.
