Agronomy major aims at cultivating senior scientific and technological talents who have basic theories, knowledge and skills in crop production, crop diseases, crop genetics and breeding, seed production and management, and can engage in agronomy-related technology and design, popularization and development, operation and management, teaching and scientific research in agriculture and other relevant departments or units.

2. Employment direction of agronomy major

With the country's emphasis on agriculture, the employment prospects of agronomy specialty are getting better and better. Graduates can generally work in scientific research, production and management institutions such as agriculture, gardens and plants, and can also work in soil and water conservation, desert management, gardens, wildlife and nature reserves.

There are few agricultural graduates, and the competition is relatively not fierce. Take Jiangsu Province as an example. Only Nanjing Agricultural University and Yangzhou University have graduates with master's degrees in agronomy, with no more than 500 graduates each year. Compared with human resources, administration and other majors, there are tens of thousands of graduates in the province. Therefore, the competition ratio of agricultural jobs is generally not more than 1: 100, and more than 90% of the jobs are only below 1: 30, and not all applicants take the exam seriously, so only less than 10 people really compete.
