As early as the late Qing Dynasty, Yuyuan Garden was a famous jewelry and jade trading market in Shanghai. By the time of the Republic of China, famous calligraphy and paintings and various works of art also gathered in Yu Garden, and this tradition has been preserved to this day. The birth of Huabaolou is also related to this tradition that lasted until the end of the Qing Dynasty.
From 65438 to 0979, Yuyuan Mall, the predecessor of Yuyuan Mall, invested heavily in repairing the ancient buildings of Chenghuang Temple, and at the same time invested in opening the Shanghai Old Town God Temple handicraft shop in the main hall of Chenghuang Temple, becoming one of the few shops specializing in handicrafts in Shanghai at that time.
1994, in order to restore the Town God Temple, Huabao Building and Jing Rong Building were newly built in the business circle, and the handicraft shop of the Old Town God Temple was also divided into two parts, and the Old Temple Gold and Old Temple handicraft shops were also established. Among them, the old temple handicraft shop moved from the main hall of Chenghuang Temple to Huabaolou; Old Miao Jin moved into Jing Rong Building.
After the opening of Huabaolou, around the theme of "Treasure of Things", it has become a gathering place for all kinds of folk handicrafts and artworks in Shanghai.
