What are the advantages of hydropower station compared with thermal power station?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of thermal power generation and hydropower generation? The advantages of thermal power generation are mature technology, low cost and low requirements for geographical environment, while the disadvantages are heavy pollution, sustainable development, dim prospect, high energy consumption and low efficiency. Hydroelectric power generation has the advantages of long history, low later cost, no pollution, renewable water energy and large total water energy. However, its disadvantages are large investment in fixed assets and high requirements for geographical environment. For example, the southwest of China is extremely rich in water resources, but the natural environment is harsh and the construction is difficult, so it can never be used. Compared with thermal power generation and hydropower generation, diesel generator sets are more convenient to generate electricity.

Nuclear power plants are so good, why can't they replace thermal power plants? Today is a long experience. Now the world has always attached great importance to power generation, and the demand for electricity is getting higher and higher. At present, there are five mainstream power generation modes in the world, namely thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power and solar power generation, among which thermal power is the dominant power generation mode. We all know that thermal power generation works by consuming coal resources. Although the power generation capacity is very strong, it will also cause great damage to the environment and produce a lot of waste.

Many people will say that hydropower can replace thermal power generation. After all, among the five power generation modes, hydropower station ranks second. If hydropower stations are being built all over the world, they will definitely replace thermal power generation. The answer is actually not that simple. Although hydropower generation is good, it has high requirements for water flow. Not every river has the ability to build a hydropower station. The conditions for building hydropower stations should be the most demanding among all power generation modes. Others will say, then replace thermal power with nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plants have strong power generation capacity and will not consume natural resources or carbon dioxide. Nuclear power plants can be built vigorously. But in fact, up to now, there are only 12 nuclear power plants in China, which have very limited power generation capacity and cannot replace thermal power plants.

Thermal power generation is the main power generation mode in China. As one of the three main equipments in thermal power plants, utility boilers have developed with the development of thermal power industry in China. During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the proportion of thermal power generation in the national electricity will drop by four to five percentage points. However, China's abundant coal and extreme power resources determine that thermal power generation will still occupy an important position in the power industry for a long time to come, although the growth rate of thermal power development is slowing down at present. However, in the long run, driven by positive factors such as environmental protection technology progress, power generation cost reduction and power demand increase, the future development prospect of thermal power industry is optimistic. It can be seen that the market development potential of coal-fired boilers in thermal power plants is huge, and the growth potential of CFB circulating fluidized bed boilers and IGCC gasifiers will be more significant.
