Dai water-splashing festival
There are many legends about the Dai Water-splashing Festival. There is a fairy tale about seven girls.
A long time ago, the fire demon who ruled the Dai area harmed one side, and the people hated her guts. Later, he married seven folk women. Seven girls strangled themselves with one of their hair when the devil was drunk and sleeping, but where the devil's head rolled, there was fire. The girls raised their heads and the fire would go out. In order to prevent the devil from harming the human world, seven girls took turns to hold the devil, and the rest of the time washed away the filth on their bodies with water until the devil's head was burned out.
Later, in order to commemorate the heroic spirit of Miss Dai Jiaqi, people poured water on each other every year on the day when the fire demon was eliminated.
