Why is Guan Yu called "God of Wealth"

Reason: Guan Gong, also known as "Guan Sheng Di Jun" or "Guan Di" for short, was originally one of the four protectors of Taoism, and later Taoism mainly worshipped him as a god of wealth. In addition to "treating diseases and eliminating disasters, exorcising evil spirits, punishing and eliminating rape, and inspecting secrets", there are also "ways to manage life, shelter merchants, and make money", which is also called the God of Wealth because of its loyalty.

Guan Yu was originally just a general of Shu Han, the regime of the Three Kingdoms, and finally became a "defeated general" who was beheaded. However, in the following thousands of years, Guan Yu was worshipped unparalleled in China society and became a "warrior of Guan Di" with many titles.

Guan Gong is regarded as a god of wealth by businessmen for three main reasons:

First, Guan Gong was very good at financial management and accounting before his death. He once established a method of taking notes and invented a diary. There are four items in this calculation method: original, receipt, withdrawal and deposit, which are very detailed and clear. Later businessmen were recognized as accounting experts, so they were regarded as the god of business;

Second, when businessmen talk about business, they pay most attention to loyalty and credit, while Guan Gong has integrity, so they respect it.

Third, it is said that after Guan Gong's death, the true God often came back to help the war and win. Businessmen just hope that one day their business will be frustrated, and they can make a comeback like Guan Gong and strive for final success. Guan Gong's belief was accepted by all walks of life in the Qing Dynasty, and it is particularly important to worship it. Buddies and green red gangs in modern Jianghu especially worship Guandi, and sworn brothers in Jianghu all worship Guandi, burn their watches and swear to be trustworthy.
