At 8 o'clock, all members of the condolence delegation to North Korea began to hold a public memorial ceremony. In his speech, Liao Chengzhi called on everyone to learn from the excellent qualities of martyr Liao Henglu, a Communist Party member who was loyal to the party and the people's liberation cause for 22 years, to shoulder his unfinished legacy, and to fight for the victory of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea. On June 2, people from all walks of life in the capital held a grand memorial meeting to commemorate the four martyrs, Liao Henglu, Chang Baokun, Cheng Shutang, and Wang Ligao, who died gloriously when the Chinese people's condolences delegation visited the Korean battlefield. Nearly 5,000 people attended the meeting, including heads of democratic parties and people's organizations, people's representatives from all walks of life in the capital, cadres from the military and government agencies, all members of the Chinese people's condolences delegation to the DPRK, and family members of martyrs. Choi Young, Counselor of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Embassy of the People's Republic of Korea in my country, also attended the meeting. Guo Moruo, chairman of the conference, laid wreaths to the four martyrs and addressed the conference. Then, Liao Chengzhi, head of the Chinese People's Condolence Mission to North Korea, introduced the resumes of the four martyrs and the active work of the martyrs during their visit to North Korea.

The representatives who attended the meeting gave speeches including Chen Shutong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wei Chunhui, Secretary-General of the General Political Department of the People's Revolutionary Military Commission, Nie Zhen, Chairman of the North China Branch of the Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and Deputy Mayor of the Beijing Municipal People's Government Zhang Youyu, director, and Lian Kuoru, chairman of the Beijing New Opera Research Association.
