The Relationship between Cuozi and Local Natural Environment

It is a unique traditional residential form in Northeast China.

In the northeast of China, there are ethnic minorities such as Oroqen, Ewenki and Hezhe, who make a living by hunting or fishing. Due to frequent migration, their homes will be simple to build and easy to move.

Because it is a fishing and hunting nation, looking for animals or fish, so the house should be built on the mountain or by the river. The vegetation is dense, so the building materials are mainly wood. The fur of wild animals comes in handy when the climate is cold and humid. This is the Cuozi, also known as the "Immortal Column", which is a spire house built with wooden poles.
