Fuzhou people must see: Fuzhou moving custom

For Fuzhou people, moving is a big event and very particular. A pair of lanterns, two bamboo poles and two brooms are necessary for moving in Fuzhou. Why? Because it means so much. This issue of Moving Feng Shui will analyze the moving customs of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, and its implications.

Bamboo poles, like lanterns, are symbols of whether the owner lives in this house. A long time ago, people began to hang clothes with bamboo poles. When the bamboo poles and clothes are still there, it means that the owner still lives in this house; Once the clothes are taken away and the bamboo pole is brought back, it means that the family has left. And when the bamboo pole rises in a new place and hangs up the clothes, it means that the new owner has arrived. So, this must be used. As for lanterns, in the early days, a pair of red lanterns were hung at the door of every household, with the owner's surname written on them.

Once the lantern is taken down, it means that the family will move out of here. When people see the new lanterns hanging, they know that there is a new owner in the room. Therefore, moving and hanging lanterns has become one of the most traditional customs of our people. There is also a broom. Moving with a broom largely reflects the traditional virtue that Fuzhou people attach importance to civilization and etiquette. In the past, people in Fuzhou needed to bring two brooms when they moved: one was old and the other was new. Its significance is to clean up the old house where you once lived, so that later people can live in it; Meanwhile, clean your new house and live a clean life. However, this custom has been passed down to this day, and an old broom has become two new brooms.

Preparation: two bamboo poles (unlimited in length), two brooms, two red barrels, red rope, straw, lighter and a pair of red lanterns.

Procedure: Before going out, tie both ends of the bamboo pole and broom with red rope in advance (some people say that they should wrap it with red paper of Spring Festival couplets before tying the red rope). One red barrel contains half a barrel of water, and the other red barrel contains rice. Be careful not to spill the water on the way from your hometown to your new home, and then put the rice in the rice bucket at your new home.

When you arrive at your new home, burn straw at the door (people and things must pass by), first carry a bucket of rice into the door, and then carry a bucket of water (this bucket of water can be used for boiling water or cooking, that is, changing soil and water for your home);

The bamboo pole enters the door, and the broom follows. At this time, you should use a broom to sweep inside for 3 times (meaning blessing to sweep to the door) and close the door for one minute;

Walk around each room with a bamboo pole, sweep each room with a broom, and finally sweep the broom out of the door for 3 times and close the door for 3 minutes; You can let the moving company in later, and then find time to hang red lanterns, and the ceremony will be over.
