What are the origins of Baogongmiao Township in Shangqiu?

The origin of Baogongmiao Township in Shangqiu City is related to the long-standing story of "Chen Zhou Releasing Grain" in Bao Zheng.

It is said that during the Qing Dynasty in Song Renzong, Chen Zhou suffered three years of disasters, crops failed and Chen Zhou people died in the struggle. Fan Zhongyan, North Korea's Minister of Housing, wants to send two honest officials to Chen Zhou to distribute relief food. Liu, the official's son at that time, recommended Yang Jinwu, the son-in-law and Liu Dezhong, the little official's son, to release grain. After Yang Jinwu and Liu Dezhong were ordered to go, they did not release grain for disaster relief, but exploited the people with the intention of Lao Zi's official's son Liu. The fact that they were corrupt spread to Beijing, and Bao Zheng was ordered to go to Chen Zhou to investigate the case. In Yongding Township, Song Cheng, the hungry stopped the sedan chair and complained about the disaster. Song Cheng is now Shangqiu.

Bao Zheng verified Liu's crimes, put him to death, and opened a warehouse to release grain to help the victims, so that the vast number of victims in Song Cheng survived the severe winter and spring drought.

1047 During the period, the people of Song Cheng spontaneously donated money and materials to repay Bao Zheng's great kindness in distributing grain for disaster relief, and built a temple for him at the place where he stopped to complain in his sedan chair, called "Baogong Temple", and designated the ninth to fifteenth day of the first month as a temple fair as a memorial. Later, Baogong Temple became the place name of Baogong Temple Township, which has a history of nearly a thousand years.

After thousands of years of wind and rain erosion, Baogong Temple in Shangqiu has been destroyed many times, and now its scale is 1994, and it is rebuilt on the original foundation.
