The Relationship between Folklore and Globalization

Recently, I read the works and articles of Dong Xiaoping, a famous folklore scholar, about globalization and folklore, which were very enlightening and shared my feelings. She believes that the folk customs of China seen, heard and contacted by modern China people have both historical traditions and modern characteristics, but the modern characteristics of some folk customs are so prominent that they can't be recognized by ordinary historical eyes. The reason why such great changes have taken place is that the world environment in which modern China people live has changed, which is very different from the living environment of their predecessors. China's folk customs are also experiencing unprecedented impact and transformation. This is the impact of the powerful country's economy and foreign culture within the scope of globalization, which is called "globalization" for short and "folklore" later. Folklore is a movement to transform folk customs from lifestyle to survival resources, and to reflect on them, develop, protect, utilize and implement national education. It publicizes the humanistic tradition, highlights the historical connotation, presents folk masterpieces, displays national individuality, pays attention to the harmonious effect, emphasizes social integration and advocates the quality of communication. It is a battle to defend the spiritual home of mankind. Globalization and folklore have become two highlights of China people's modern daily life, just like suits and Tang suits. Wear this today and that tomorrow. In silence, the Tang suit absorbed the advantages of the suit, and became more suitable to show the figure and temperament of China people without changing its true colors, showing the atmosphere and kindness of a folk country. Globalization is lingering, and folk customs have gone and come again; The more globalization, the more folk customs, which is a paradox and a trend.

It should be pointed out that globalization has both eroded and stimulated folk customs. Globalization has caused many disasters, such as industrial noise, agricultural loss, environmental pollution, technological hegemony, weak humanities, declining cultural authority, widening gap between the rich and the poor, SARS and so on. It brings more mental trauma to human beings than economic benefits. At this time, the rise of folklore requires the establishment of a harmonious relationship between man and the environment, calling for return, appreciating nature, seeking self, protecting world heritage resources and building a sustainable society. This is the embodiment of human collective consciousness. At this time, folk custom has become a modern weapon, which is cheap, can be used to change the mood, state ideas, maintain humanity, control the rhythm, narrow the gap, and help build a sustainable society, so it has been well used.

Now everyone is too busy to breathe, but folk customs make people slow down and appreciate life, giving people a more calm and humanized feeling. On February 8, 2008, my family and I went to a restaurant that opened in recent years (see photo). This is a very distinctive place (such an indoor place is rare in the local area). Set catering, leisure, garden sightseeing, flowers and trees, bridges and flowing water, eating, drinking and having fun, children's playground in one. Enjoy the hall decorated with traditional and annual flavor. When you sit down, whether you are eating or drinking tea, you will feel as if you are in a garden with birds and flowers. It is very precious for modern people to stop at this moment in a hurry. For this reason, it is very hot here. I sat in the hall for less than half an hour and saw an endless stream of people, all from all over the world. During this period, I actually saw three large foreign tour groups come here for sightseeing and dining. In the past, restaurants were closed for dinner at home during the Spring Festival, but now it can be said that there has been a change. During the Chinese New Year, people not only eat New Year's Eve at home, but go out for sightseeing and leisure gatherings, and the requirements for meeting places are becoming more and more personalized. Folk customs are not weakened, but more obvious. Under the globalization, folk customs sometimes become a state of mind, which makes people who are constantly rushing around the world become inner peace and makes interesting culture become ecological culture.

Folklore has both the resistance of globalization and domestic demand. The resistance comes from two aspects: first, it emphasizes national rights. In traditional society, folk custom is the most extensive internal cultural tradition. At the beginning of globalization, those developing countries became culturally disadvantaged groups and folk customs became culturally disadvantaged because of their backward economy, which was the most unacceptable place for them. Therefore, developing countries seek self-development and self-protection, actively promote folk customs and strive for equal rights; The second is to reflect on cultural traditions. In China, a big country with a long history of traditional culture, people need to re-understand the value of folk customs from the perspective of traditional culture in the face of surging multicultural competition and exchange. For a long time, folk customs have been misunderstood as the product of superstition, backwardness and poverty. In fact, this is not correct. When we praise dragon lanterns, lion dances, chopsticks and Anhui opera, aren't we praising our own folk customs? Of course, when all ethnic groups in this country are calling for the protection of their own folk customs, it is also an inevitable choice for us to consider which China folk customs can be included in the representative works of China's cultural traditions, so as to dedicate them to the treasure house of excellent human culture and let the world appreciate them. Recently, I heard that South Korea successfully applied for the Dragon Boat Festival as "Dragon Boat Festival", and now it is going to call China "calligraphy" and the Japanese "Shu Dao" originated in China as "calligraphy art" in South Korea. It is said that there is evidence that Wang Xizhi's Preface to Lanting was written on Korean paper. No matter how enthusiastic the media discussion on this matter is and how much it is worth learning, other countries attach importance to folk culture. It also confirms the reality and urgency of the topic we are discussing here from one side. In addition, people who have been to Europe know that developed countries in Europe have experienced many lessons of industrial demolition, agricultural destruction, environmental pollution and loss of local flavor after two world wars, and have taken the road that China is taking now, so they pay special attention to protection. What they are most opposed to now is the globalization of seeking common ground while reserving differences, which is an inspiration for China people to choose now. In global communication, what different cultures need more is an active appreciation and learning.

However, there is always a feeling of returning to life. People were born in their parents' family and somewhere, which is where people's life originated. The vitality, tension, explanatory power and regenerative power of folk customs all occur here. Later people, no matter how they go out and establish identity relations with colleagues, friends, units, nationalities and countries, always have to contact this place, so as to maintain their sense of origin and belonging in life, know where they come from and where they are going, and not lose their spiritual balance. The most sensational expression of this place is "home". Globalization has given many definitions to "home", but the most powerful definition is the definition of the place where people live. When a society is closed, this definition is cage, norm and bondage. When a society is open, this definition is identification, entrustment and belonging. In the globalization, the definition of folklore is needed in more occasions, with a wider crowd and a stronger refuge color, and folklore has been further developed here. In today's world, a nation, a country and a community are insensitive to globalization and folk customs. China is a country with multi-ethnic unity, and globalization and folklore occur at the same time. China people should learn to understand, tolerate and accept the outside world, while still maintaining their national subjectivity and cultural characteristics at home.

Dong Xiaoping put forward some questions worth thinking about: how to identify folk customs from colorful modern things? How to put away people's rarity of global fashion and discover the uniqueness of China folk customs? How to extract the most wonderful, active and touching folk customs, find their inner life elements, compare, reflect and carry forward them, and at the same time protect, utilize and carry forward them, so as to improve the rationality of pursuers, let China people show their individuality in modern culture and increase their ability to communicate with foreign countries? How to make folk customs become the representative of China culture in the new era and the diversified world today, so as to inspire the people of China and promote the protection of ecological natural resources in China? These are all issues that need to be discussed in today's era.

Folk customs are inherently diverse, but if you can't find fine products, you can't compete; If it is not converted into resources, it cannot be developed, protected and utilized. The previous folklore emphasized the internal enjoyment and self-knowledge function of folk customs. In his works and articles, Dong Xiaoping advocates that the protection of folk literature and art under the background of globalization should adopt the dual perspectives of internal and external, and make a dual comparison from two basic perspectives: internal and external, self and world, history and present, active and endangered. In other words, we should not only regard our own folk customs as national treasures, but also regard other people's folk customs as treasures. In the common heritage of human national treasures, we should recognize the irreplaceable position of China folk customs, and on this basis, choose representative works to participate in world-class exhibitions and exchanges, so that China folk customs can be more known, appreciated and respected by the world. Although this requirement is very high, the United Nations document on the protection of cultural diversity has been published for more than 20 years, and the China government and the people have also started various actions.

Different from previous folklore, Dong Xiaoping also emphasized public education in modern society. It wants to explain to the whole society that excellent folk customs are of great value to its own survival and development, and also wants to let the whole people know that only by cherishing folk customs can we win the respect of others and appreciate the multi-culture of the world. In the great changes of the global society, it is particularly necessary to increase folk knowledge, raise folk awareness and defend folk rights. This is a cultural weapon, which can preserve the natural heritage, cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage left by ancestors, carry forward the fine tradition of China's conservation-oriented culture, safeguard national cultural security and cultural sovereignty, assist China's modernization and benefit the future society.

In this context, it is forward-looking, and folk literature and art and related aspects have great potential to promote national stability and unity, arouse people's self-esteem and pride in local culture, comprehensively inherit the excellent cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, integrate into the trend of world multicultural recording, dissemination and enjoyment, enhance human communication and understanding, and promote world peace and development. give rise to
