How the national standard is numbered
The code of national standard is composed of capitalized Hanyu Pinyin letters.
The code for mandatory national standards is "GB", and the code for recommended national standards is "GB/T".
The number of the national standard consists of the code name of the national standard, the sequence number of the national standard and the year number of the national standard (i.e., the last two digits of the year of publication).
Since GB 2312-80 includes only 6,763 Chinese characters and fails to cover the rare characters appearing in traditional Chinese characters, some personal names, dialects and ancient Chinese, the above auxiliary set is issued.
