? TCM Treatment of Apoplexy Precursor

Apoplexy aura is a mild syndrome of apoplexy, and it has roughly the same pathogenesis as apoplexy. Although it is complicated, its core is deficiency of qi and blood, internal wind with phlegm and blood stasis, disturbing the orifices, crossing the limbs, and causing occlusion of the brain and orifices. Its clinical manifestations are paroxysmal dizziness, numbness of limbs, transient speech disorder, partial weakness, dark vision, fatigue, prone to lying, unstable walking and so on. Chinese medicine based on syndrome differentiation can effectively treat the premonition of stroke and reduce the incidence of stroke, which is mainly divided into the following four types.

Liver-yang-transforming wind

Symptoms include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, numbness or transient paralysis of limbs, impatience and irritability, red face and tinnitus, and red tongue and pulse. Treating with calming the liver and calming the wind, choose Zhengan Xifeng Decoction: Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Radix Asparagi, Ramulus Longi, Fructus Lycii, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Prunellae Spica, Herba Taxilli, Rhizoma Atractylodis, Concha Margaritifera, Uncaria rhynchophylla, Achyranthis Radix, Flos Chrysanthemi and Scutellariae Radix.

Phlegm-heat-fu-organ excess

Symptoms include dizziness, fainting, head swelling and numbness, nausea and boredom, tiredness and sleepiness, bitter and sticky mouth, constipation, Huang Chi in urine, insomnia and dreaminess, red tongue with yellow fur, and slippery or slippery pulse. In order to clear phlegm and heat, dredge fu-organs and reduce turbidity, Huanglian Wendan Decoction and Xiaochengqi Decoction are selected: Coptidis Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Pinellia ternata, Zhuru, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Pericarpium Citri Tangerinae, Poria, Semen Sinapis Albae, Almond, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Magnolia Officinalis, Raphani Semen and Angelica sinensis.

Qi deficiency and blood stasis

The symptoms are transient paralysis, slurred speech, headache and numbness in the hands, fatigue, unsteady walking, abdominal distension, frequent urination, thin and white tongue coating, dark or ecchymosis tongue, thin or heavy pulse and weakness. To treat qi and remove blood stasis, Buyanghuanwu Decoction is selected and modified: Astragalus, Codonopsis pilosula, Angelica sinensis, Chuanxiong, Carthamus tinctorius, Lumbricus, Peach Kernel, Paeonia Rubra, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Poria, Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Glycyrrhiza uralensis.

Yin deficiency of liver and kidney

Symptoms include limb weakness, numbness, muscle weakness, paroxysmal dizziness, transient blurred vision, dull expression, dry mouth and throat, vexation and irritability, loose stool, red tongue with little fur, thin or thready pulse. For the treatment of nourishing liver and kidney, promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals, Zuogui Pill and Huoluo Xiaolingdan are selected: Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Fructus Corni, Fructus Lycii, Achyranthis Radix, Semen Cuscutae, Fructus Ligustri Lucidi, Rhizoma Gastrodiae, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Rhizoma Polygonati, Colla Plastri Testudinis, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Radix Scrophulariae, Radix Rumex Preparata, Ramulus Uncariae cum Uncis, Fructus Toosendan, Radix Curcumae, etc.
