Is New Year's Day a Western or Traditional Chinese Holiday

As a matter of fact, New Year's Day is a traditional Chinese holiday, however, some western countries also celebrate the day.

So, where did New Year's Day come from?

In fact, when it comes to New Year's Day, it actually goes back to the time of the Three Emperors and the Five Emperors. It is said that at that time, Emperor Yao was diligent in his administration and did a lot of good things for the people throughout his life, but Yao's son was a no-good one, so Yao didn't pass his tribe to his son and chose Shun, who was a person with high morals and outstanding abilities. Before Yao's death, he also urged Shun to pass the throne to someone with both virtue and ability. After this, Shun passed the throne to Yu, who was successful in treating water. As a matter of fact, all these chiefs were good to the people and did a lot of good deeds. Later, people regarded the day when Shun sacrificed Yao as the beginning of the year, and the first day of the first month was called "New Year's Day", which is the origin of New Year's Day.

In modern times, in 1911, Sun Yat-sen established the Republic of China. From the first year of the Republic of China, it was decided to use the Gregorian calendar, and stipulated that January 1 of the solar calendar is "New Year's Day", but not called "New Year's Day". Later, the government of the Republic of China called the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar "Spring Festival" and January 1 of the Gregorian calendar "New Year's Day", which is how New Year's Day came to be in modern China.

We know that in ancient times, paying New Year's greetings did not need to enter the door of the house, but just sent blessings to the master. As a matter of fact, all the dynasties held celebrations and rituals on New Year's Day, such as offering sacrifices to the gods and ancestors, hanging spring couplets, writing the word "blessing", and dancing with dragons and lanterns. New Year's Day in the court, is also quite grand and prosperous, while the ordinary people over the New Year's Day is also very lively. On the morning of New Year's Day, every family would get up early, dress up, put on new clothes, visit friends and relatives, and wish each other well. On New Year's Day, the streets are full of lights and decorations, with all kinds of hats, jewelry, clothes, toys and other goods.

Of course, some countries in the world also celebrate New Year's Day, and some countries also take New Year's Day as an official holiday.
