There is much water around Guangfu ancient city, and there are many records of water conservancy construction, flood control and drainage in local chronicles of past dynasties. Among them, the earliest record is the legend that Mao Sui managed Fuyang River. Mao Sui was a disciple of Zhao Haoqi Ping during the Warring States Period. The story of recommending himself, sending an envoy to Chu and persuading the king of Chu to send troops to save Zhao is well known to future generations. Mao Sui was later made an admonition officer by Wang Zhao, and his fief was in the ancient city of Guangfu. When Mao Sui took office, the water conservancy facilities here were very backward, and floods occurred when it rained heavily. So Mao Sui led the people to dig ditches and open canals, dredge rivers, eliminate floods and let the surrounding people live and work in peace and contentment. The tomb of Mao Sui is now located outside the west gate of the ancient city, where the sacrificial people linger.
In the middle of Ming Dynasty, the ancient city entered a prosperous period. In order to adapt to the development of agriculture, eight irrigation gates, such as Huimin Gate, Convenience Gate and Runmin Gate, have been built along the Fuyang River in Daxing Water Conservancy, such as Zhifujiang and Zhixian in Guangping. Because the eight irrigation gates are evenly distributed in the west of the ancient city of Guangfu, they are collectively called "west eight Gate". After the "west eight Gate" was built one after another, the Fuyang River was used to irrigate more than 40,000 mu of land in the west of the city, and this barren land became a high rice producing area. "west eight Gate" is an important water conservancy facility on the Fuyang River in ancient times. At present, there are seven well-preserved "west eight Gates", four of which are still tirelessly irrigating thousands of paddy fields, silently benefiting the people.
In addition to irrigating farmland, the ancient Fuyang River also has a function of benefiting the people, that is, transportation. Fuyang River belongs to the canal system, and the ancient land transportation was underdeveloped. Fuyang River has become the main artery of north-south traffic, and Guangfu ancient city has also become a water pier where merchants gather.
