Introduction to Grammar Translation Methods
Grammar translation is "a traditional foreign language teaching method of teaching written foreign languages by mother tongue translation, that is, a method of teaching foreign languages by grammar explanation and translation practice". Grammar translation is also called traditional method, classical method, old method, reading method, Prussian method and so on. Its representatives are H. Ollendorff and Jacotot. Foreign language teaching method originated from Latin teaching method and prevailed in Europe from 15 to 17 century. At that time, it was called "grammar imitation method", which was the embryonic form of translation method. 18- 19 th century, some countries in western Europe confirmed the teaching position of translation method, so French attaches importance to grammar teaching, which is called grammar method or grammar translation method, and it is also called traditional method because it inherits Latin tradition.
