Synthesis of adipic acid by malonic acid synthesis
Diethyl malonate was first treated with sodium ethoxide (the solvent was ethanol), and then ClCH2CH2Cl was added to react with it to obtain (eto2C) 2CH2CHCH (CO2ET) 2. Adding NaOH dilute solution and heating for decarboxylation to obtain adipic acid.
But adipic acid is usually obtained by catalytic oxidation of cyclohexanone, which is cheaper and malonic acid is too expensive.
