Is sunflower seed transgenic or non-transgenic?

Sunflower seeds are not genetically modified.

At present, sunflower used as melon seeds is mainly a hybrid variety, and there are also a few traditional varieties without transgenic varieties.

Sunflower seed hybridization is three lines, namely, sterile line (female parent), restorer line (male parent) and maintainer line (keeping female parent sterile). Transgene refers to the transfer of excellent genetic characters of plants to breeding parent plants. At present, the three lines of sunflower seeds have failed to realize transgenic technology.

However, there is "Meikui" in oil sunflower (sunflower seeds for oil pressing) that is genetically modified. Its output is high, the size is symmetrical, neat and consistent, and the purchase price is high. According to the statistics of China Nut Roasting Committee, the average income per kilogram of Meikui is 0.5~ 1 yuan higher than that of Guokui. Due to the degradation of conventional varieties, "Guokui" has not been improved in time and effectively, with different plant heights, irregular fruit appearance and low yield per mu, which weakens its competitiveness.
