Extended data:
The distribution area of giant pandas is already quite narrow. In fact, its distribution is limited to the southern slope of Qinling Mountain in Shaanxi, China, Minshan Mountain, Qionglai Mountain, Daxiangling Mountain and Xiaoxiangling Mountain in Sichuan, and it lives in deciduous broad-leaved forest and mountain bamboo forest in subalpine coniferous forest belt at an altitude of 1400-3600 meters, with a total area of 29,500 square meters.
Due to human factors, such as mountains, rivers or highways, cultivated land, etc., each area is divided into smaller units. So the actual habitat area is less than 20% of the total area, only about 5900 square kilometers.
There are 30 small populations in China, with a total population of about 1000. Except for Wolong in Sichuan, each population is less than 50, and some are only 10. Broken habitats and isolated living conditions are very unfavorable for giant pandas to breed and resist natural disasters.
