When it was first put on the stage, its accompaniment instruments were only hand board, quhu, sanxian, soft bow, jinghu and sheng. Beijing Quju is a kind of drama that originated and formed in Beijing. The musical singing of Beijing Quju originated from Danxian Qupai, which is a kind of drama that rose after liberation. There is no performance program of traditional Chinese opera, and there is no strict occupational distinction. Formerly known as Quyi Drama, it combined various forms of Beijing Quyi, and later Lao She changed her name to "Beijing Quyi Drama".
It rose to the stage of traditional drama in China by performing modern drama, and was famous for its rich flavor of life. From its establishment to the present, Beijing Opera has performed more than 100 performances. The most influential plays are Ocean's Man Qian, Zhang's Women's Representative, Smile and so on. Modern historical dramas include The Boxer Rebellion and Tears of Zhen Fei. Historical life plays include Yang Naiwu and Chinese Cabbage, The Tiger King Snatches the Kiss, Yanjiatan, The Butcher's Champion and so on. Among them, "Yang Naiwu and Chinese Cabbage" and "An Arrow on the String" were shot in 1960s, while "Tears of Princess Zhen" was shot in 1982.
Wei Xikui is the representative actor of this kind of drama. She is famous for her sweet singing skills, and she is good at shaping the musical image of characters with innovative drum singing methods. Peking Opera began to spread from Beijing to Tianjin in 1950s and 1960s, and then to Yingkou City, Liaoning Province after 1970s.
