The custom on the third day of the Spring Festival
1, the mouse gets married
The third night is the day when mice get married, so most people turn off the lights and go to bed early so as not to disturb the mice.
Some people will also sprinkle some rice grains, cakes and other foods in the corner for the mice to eat, which is called "mouse money", which means that they can enjoy a bumper harvest with the mice for a year.
2. Go to bed early and get up late
"The first day is early, the second day is early, and the third day is full."
As the folk song says, from New Year's Eve to the second day, people are tired because they need to keep vigil, and it will come to an end in the third day.
Because the third day is not suitable for going out or entertaining guests, people can sleep peacefully and get up late on this day to keep their spirits up for the new year.
3. Off-year.
In the Qing Gulu's Ting Anne Lu Xiaonian Dynasty, it was recorded: "The third day of the first month is a small year dynasty, which is the same as the old dynasty."
In the Song Dynasty, due to the spread of gobbledygook, Zhenzong issued a letter, and the third day of the first month was designated as Tianqing Festival, and officials had a five-day holiday.
Later, it was called Xiaonian Dynasty, which did not sweep the floor, beg for fire or draw water, just like the old dynasty.
4, burning door god paper
There is an ancient proverb: "burning the door god paper, individuals seek physiology."
In ancient times, on the third day of New Year's Eve, people would burn pine and cypress branches and hanging door gods, indicating that they would start business immediately after the New Year.
5. Pig Day
The third day of the first lunar month is also called the Year of the Pig. Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, the traditional view is that the first day of the first month is rooster day, the second day is dog day, the third day is pig day, the fourth day is sheep day, the fifth day is ox day, the sixth day is horse day and the seventh day is human day.
According to folklore, this is because when Nu Wa created everything, she created six animals first and then people, so the first day to the sixth day is the day of six animals.
Therefore, people are used to not killing pigs on this day. If the weather is fine that day, the pigs will grow fat and strong, and the host family will naturally be beaming.
6. Xiaomi's birthday
The third day of the first month, commonly known as "Xiaomi's birthday", has been circulating among the people. On this day, every household will pray for the New Year and fast food, otherwise the grain harvest will be affected in the next year.
However, this custom has long been out of date, because with the progress of the times, it is rare for people to get together for the Spring Festival, which has faded a lot.
