I don't know if you are talking about the side mark of a seal carving? A seal carving work contains two parts: the seal face and the margin, the seal face is naturally the text of the seal, and the margin is mainly the time of the seal, the author and other content. As shown in the picture below, the red part is the seal face, and the black part is the margin.
