What is singing?
The first political party in Japan, 1874, was established, and the call for direct elections in the National Assembly became stronger and stronger. Politicians who have always been forbidden to speak in public express their views by writing poems, and singers walk the streets selling these songs. This is the origin of Japanese native folk songs.
Performers themselves have gradually evolved from street political agitators to paid professional singers. Before the popularity of radios and cameras, "singing singers" were the main media for music publishing. Modern "singing" is mostly about lovelorn, and it has gradually become a major tradition of Japanese pop music in the 20th century. Sadness and tremor in the tune are the unique style of "singing" and are considered as a branch of ballads.
My own understanding is: it can be said that performing songs are a branch of Japanese pop music, but they have their own unique style, mostly sad, which is probably related to the national sentiment in Japan after the war and also reflects some characteristics of Japanese male chauvinism!
Taiwan Province's early singers were all influenced by this style, including Teresa Teng, who sang many songs of this style!
