Traditional repertoire of Pu Opera

There are more than 500 kinds of traditional operas in Pu Opera, including this opera and Zhezi opera. From ancient times to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the themes were all literature and martial arts, with diverse styles. Traditional operas include Resisting US Aggression and Aid Korea, Three Stores, Dou E's Injustice, Love in My Heart, Yan Yan, The Story of the West Chamber, and The Orphan of Zhao. Newly-edited historical dramas include Baigou River and Harbour Post, and modern dramas include Carrying on the Family Line. Among them, Yuan has been made into a movie.

During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, some Pu Opera artists gathered in the cooperative in the southern area of Yan 'an, northern Shaanxi, formed a Pu Opera class and performed Yi Tu. During the War of Liberation, Yicheng Liberation Troupe in Taiyue District once performed the modern drama Hongye River. Xi 'an has Jinfeng Society and Fengtang Society. In addition, there are also class associations in Jinnan that insist on performing activities. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Pu Opera developed rapidly, and more than 40 Pu Opera Troupes were established in southern Shanxi, western Henan and northern Shaanxi. Among them, Jinnan Pu Theatre (now the predecessor of Linfen Pu Theatre and Yuncheng Pu Opera Troupe) is the most representative. The main famous actors are Wang Xiulan (Xiao Dan), Yan Fengchun (Xu Sheng), Zhang Qingkui (Xu Sheng), Yang Hushan (Er Jing) and Xiao Yuelai (Xiao Sheng). The main musicians are Che Linwa (drum board) and Che Taiwa (banhu). There are also writers, directors, musicians and dancers involved in artistic creation and innovation. The traditional repertoires adapted include Xue Gang's Anti-Korean War, Sanjiadian, Dou Eyuan, Zhong Yiyuan, Yan Yan, The Romance of the West Chamber, Zhao's Orphan, Offering Sister-in-law to Zhou People, Selling Horses, Killing Mail, Going Out of the Tangyi, and Breaking Hongzhou, etc. Want to spread in the south of Shanxi.
