Where does Huian stone carving culture come from?
Hui 'an sculpture art originated from Zhang Yun, the "King of Castle Peak" (Fujian General of the Five Dynasties), who stationed troops in Castle Peak (30 miles east of Hui 'an County) and guarded the border. His subordinates (mostly from the Central Plains) brought the advanced production technology of the Central Plains, including stone carving, and continued to grow and develop. According to historical records, Zhang Yun's subordinates first taught stone carving skills in Qingshan area, and later extended the teaching scope to the whole Chongwu Huian.
Hui 'an stone carving is one of the traditional carving techniques in China and Fujian Province. As a wonderful flower of China's excellent traditional culture, after more than 1000 years of reproduction and development, it still retains a very pure China artistic tradition and maintains a very complete continuity. So far, it has not been alienated by western foreign cultures and has a strong national character.
