Why is Chinese painting called "Danqing"?

Colors such as vermilion, azurite, and stone green were commonly used in ancient Chinese paintings, so they were called “paintings” to describe Chinese paintings.

Dan refers to red, and green refers to blue-green.

The ancient Chinese often used water-soluble pigments when painting. Ink is the easiest thing to find. The ancients used charcoal strips to start their sketches and ink to finalize them. Paintings drawn only with black ink are called "ink paintings". Chinese paintings are mainly ink.

Supplemented by other colors, Chinese painting is also called "ink painting".
