How are linear guides classified?

Rolling linear guide pair replaces relative contact sliding with rolling between slider and guide rail. Rolling linear guide pairs can be divided into ball type, roller type and needle roller type according to the shape of rolling bodies.

1, spherical

Raceway includes slider raceway and guide raceway, with balls as rolling elements and contact between balls and raceway as point contact. Ball guide pair has good sensitivity and high positioning accuracy, but its bearing capacity and stiffness are small, so it needs to be preloaded to improve its stiffness, and it is suitable for non-high stiffness CNC machine tools.

2. Roller type

Compared with the ball guide pair, the ball guide pair takes the roller as the rolling body, and the contact between the roller and the raceway is linear contact. When the roller bears high load, it will form slight elastic deformation, and its bearing capacity and stiffness are greater. Mainly used in machining centers, CNC compound machining machines, grinders, gantry machining centers and other large and heavy machine tools, especially suitable for high-end machine tools with ultra-high rigidity, high precision and overload.

3. Needle roller type

Needle roller guide rail is characterized by small volume and compact structure. In order to improve the motion accuracy of the worktable, the dimensions will be grouped by diameter. Needle roller guide rail is suitable for machine tools with limited guide rail size.
