Do you know what's good about tenon-mortise structure for mahogany furniture?

Tenon, brush wood into the hole. It is usually called tenon. Also known as bamboo shoots. Tenon and mortise (s ǔ n m m m mo) is a concave-convex connection method, which is used on two wooden members. The protruding part is called tenon (or tenon); The recessed part is called mortise (or mortise and tenon), which is the main structural mode of wooden utensils such as ancient buildings and furniture in China.

Various tenons and mortises have different practices and different scope of application, but they have the function of "joint" in every piece of furniture. According to the structural coordination, dozens of different "tenons and mortises" can be classified, which can be roughly divided into three types:

One is mainly surface bonding, or two edges bonding, or surface and edge bonding. Such as "notch tenon", "mortise tenon", "dovetail joint", "threading tenon" and "tying tenon".

The other is a structural method as a "point". Mainly used for T-joints, angle joints, cross joints of horizontal and vertical beams, expansion joints of straight beams and curved beams. Such as "grid shoulder tenon", "double tenon", "double clamping tenon", "hook tenon", "wedge tenon", "half tenon" and "through tenon".

There is also a construction method that combines three components and connects them with each other. This method is more complicated and special besides using some tenon-mortise combined structures mentioned above. Such as "supporting angle tenon", "long and short tenon", "holding shoulder tenon" and "zong angle tenon".

If tenons and mortises are used properly, the two wood structures can be tightly fixed together to achieve a "seamless" degree. It is a basic skill that ancient carpenters must have, and the level of craftsmanship can be clearly reflected through the tenon-mortise structure.

Its main advantages are as follows:

1, tenon-mortise structure is the combination of tenon and tenon, and it is a clever combination of more and less, high and low, long and short wood pieces. This combination can effectively limit the distortion between wooden pieces in all directions. Nail connection can't be done. For example, if nails are used to make a T-shaped combination of two wooden roofs, the vertical roof and the horizontal roof are easy to distort and change their angles, but tenons and mortises will not distort.

2. Metals are easy to rust or oxidize, while real mahogany furniture can be used for hundreds of years. If nails are added, it is likely that the wood will be intact, but the furniture will fall apart due to corrosion, fatigue and aging of the connecting metal.

3. The furniture with mortise and tenon structure is easy to transport. Many mahogany furniture is disassembled and transported, so it is very convenient to assemble and install it at the destination. If the furniture is connected by nails, it can be partially disassembled, but this cannot be done for furniture with many pieces in Xiao Mu, such as chairs.

4. Furniture with mortise and tenon structure is easy to maintain. Pure mahogany furniture can be used for hundreds of years, and there will always be problems, such as a broken brick that needs to be replaced. Nail-connected furniture is not as easy to disassemble and replace as mortise-and-tenon furniture.

Mortise and tenon are of high quality. Mahogany wood is hard, and pushing nails in by squeezing and drilling hard wedges can easily lead to wood splitting, which carpenters know very well. Using mortise and tenon to connect mahogany furniture can greatly improve the internal quality of mahogany furniture, which is also an important reason why mahogany furniture made by traditional technology has value-added collection value.
